Robust and smooth, this full-flavored lager is exceptionably drinkable and pitch black in color.

Bottle at a work event. My first beer from Utah! Very dark color, almost black. Choco coffee bitter taste on a mild carbonation mouthfeel. Pretty good. Probably better for a colder day.

DATE TASTED: September 5, 2015 ... GLASSWARE: Hennepin pokal... OCCASION: putting Penn State’s first loss to bed with Pitch Perfect and Shan... APPEARANCE: midnight black, 100% opaque body with an off-white head that fizzles to a strong, glass-clinging lacing... AROMA: an interesting mixture of soft, smoky, light cracker and some off-putting vegetable scents... PALATE: lively at the start; dry and smooth, with a full finish; silky good ... TASTE: immediate peat and scotch overtones--winning!--but little hop to speak of; a flattened, easy-drinking schwarzbier commensurate with coca-cola or A-Treat...OVERALL: drinkable, yes--but not robust as the label suggests...a reasonable offering...

Black. Crisp. Tasted at my Whales and Whimps bottle share. Tastes like a mild. Thx John.

12 oz bottle. Pours black, off-white head, large head, great lacing. Aroma is malt. Flavor is chocolate, coffee, smooth roasted malt. Amazing creamy, smooth mouthfeel. Carbonation is low. Little bitterness on the end. A really nice, easy to drink darker beer from Uinta.

Beer of month club. Pours a dark, dark brown with almost no head. Mild nose, some chocolate. Taste of some chocolate, smokiness and roasted hops. Easy to drink, smooth, creamy mouthfeel. Good one. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Has two pints of this last night at the hotel bar. Pours the oart with a small soapy light tan head. Some dark malt, roast coffee, slightly sweet, medium body with light carbonation.

Poured from cool-looking 12oz brown bottle into Willybecher glass, an opaque dark brown colour, reddish at the corners when held to the light, with creamy beige, long-lasting with lace. Subtle but pleasant aromas of dark grain, just a hint of peppery, flowery hops. Toasty flavour, roasty (but not too), mild earthy hoppy bittering balance. Hint of coffee-like acidity. Grainy mouthfeel with nice mineral essence. Light body, strong carbonation, crisp dry lager finish. Inviting session-strength. Excellent example of style.

On tap @ Uinta. Very dark brown in color with some khaki foam. Nice roasted malts and a hint of burnt toast on the nose. Pleasant coffee and chocolate as well. A subtle sweetness of blackberry and toasted bread along with a pretty heavy roast character and some coffee. Maybe a hint of cocoa powder as well. Nice floral and leafy hops in there, too. Probably my favorite beer of the stop.
