Yum - delicious!. Coffee, chocolate and toffee notes. Medium bitterness. Very rich and flavorful.

Bottled on 05/07/12, so I’m pushing things a bit here. Nose of full-throated chocolate with light roast and ink, dark cola pour with a foamy tan head. Watery, thin body with roast, light ash and tar, touch of syrup, receded but still pleasant chocolate. Reminds of finished cigars (and I am not a smoker), and malt is slight but relatively elastic. Crisp, lovely Lager feel. Nice!

On tap at burger. in Santa Cruz. Pours deep brown with a tan head. Nice toasted burnt malt aroma. Flavor is pretty much what you expect and want out of a schwarzbier. Dark malt flavors, mild dark chocolate and roasted grains, with the airiness of a lager. Not quite as bold as Death and Taxes, say, but still a solid beer, and I’d even consider it better than most of the German import schwarzbiers we get.

Black with a tan head. Aromas of iced coffee, chocolate, and crisp, clean lager yeast. Lots of roasted barley flavors with coffee and a hint of smoke. Medium-bodied with a clean finish.
The dark flavors don’t compromise the crisp characters of a schwarzbier. Really well done.

Bottled. A deep red beer with a light tan head. The aroma has notes of malt and caramel. The flavor is sweet with notes of caramel and malt, leading to a bitter finish.
