Robust and smooth, this full-flavored lager is exceptionably drinkable and pitch black in color.

Two fingers of head on a black body. The aroma has a light scent of roasted malt. The taste has some burnt wood, roasted malt and a lemon bitter (mild) finish. The texture is crisp with moderate carbonation and medium body. A decent black lager, though the taste was heavy on the burnt wood.

Nice beer. Deviates slightly from the style. No real hint of aroma. Very dark brew with a tan head. Medium weight with strong carbonation. Nice flavor of roasted and hoppy, almost like a black IPA and schwarzbier blended.

Very dark brown brew with a 2 finger head of off white foam sitting atop. Bitter roasted malt in the smell with string hints of smoke. The bitter could be some hop character as well, I suppose. Roasted malt, bitter hops, definite flavours of smoke that compliment. There’s some real harmony going on with this black lager. It has a creamy mouthfeel. Very good brew!

Pleasing aroma, chocolate syrup and some coffee notes. Very dark but not quite opaque in the glass, tinting red/purple in the light. Decent sized foamy head. Flavor somewhat empty, dry cocoa, mild coffee, dry finish - all somewhat typical of schwarzbier but the finish just runs a tad thin. I feel like there’s an illusion of smokiness in here, possibly due to a touch of roasted malt.

A nearly black lager with a creamy beige head escaped the 12 oz bottle and rested in my glass. The aroma was mostly charred chocolate with maybe a hint of coffee. The beer was lighter than expected, both in feel and flavor. Palate seemed one dimensional with a short very slightly bitter finish. Good, but not great.

Bottle. Pours a dark brownish black with a small tan head. Aroma was roasty with chocolate and coffee. Flavor of roasted malts, black coffee, chocolate, light caramel and had a little smokiness.

Pretty blah and not very good honestly. As a black lager goes, this one is pretty lacking. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Pours translucent black with small beige head. Aroma is roasty, medium body, medium carbonation, and good really small bubble lacing. Taste is roasty, some herbal hops, and some dark chocolate. Pretty good Schwartz beer

UPDATED: DEC 31, 2014 12 oz. bottle from Whole Foods. Nose of faint toast and yeast. Flavors of roasted coffee, smoke and cocoa. Slight malt influence. Bitter, yet mouth feel remains light and slightly watery with good carbonation. Dry, not sweet. For a light beer, I find this to be tasty and drinkable.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Beer & Beyond, Tel Aviv. Clear deep brown with small brownish head. Aroma of strong coffee, dark chocolate, caramel, ash. Flavor of light coffee, roasted malt, ash, light sweetness, earthy, light sourness, light bitter sticky semi-dry finish. Light carbonation, medium-bodied.
