2 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20
Sam Adams Boston glass from bottle. A: slight sweetness and slight coffee. App: extremely dark, ruby red. With a half finger ever-so-slightly, tan head. T: relatively light compared to the color. Front has mild roastyness. Back is a stronger roastyness. P: medium bubbles, very light, and smooth, lasting aftertaste of roast. Go for Kostritzer for a much better swartzbier!

Pours a dark brown with a tan head and good lacing. Roasted malty aroma. Roasty, borderline smokey, and lightly bitter. A bit watery and not much to the flavor. Fairly light bodied for a dark beer.

can to glass; thought I liked this style; not really a fan of this beer - some malt and maybe nuttiness in aroma. dark black pour - palate and taste were let downs; this is thin; taste had some roasted malts and nuttiness up front and then nothing - just left with thin liquid....

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle at a work event. My first beer from Utah! Very dark color, almost black. Choco coffee bitter taste on a mild carbonation mouthfeel. Pretty good. Probably better for a colder day.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
DATE TASTED: September 5, 2015 ... GLASSWARE: Hennepin pokal... OCCASION: putting Penn State’s first loss to bed with Pitch Perfect and Shan... APPEARANCE: midnight black, 100% opaque body with an off-white head that fizzles to a strong, glass-clinging lacing... AROMA: an interesting mixture of soft, smoky, light cracker and some off-putting vegetable scents... PALATE: lively at the start; dry and smooth, with a full finish; silky good ... TASTE: immediate peat and scotch overtones--winning!--but little hop to speak of; a flattened, easy-drinking schwarzbier commensurate with coca-cola or A-Treat...OVERALL: drinkable, yes--but not robust as the label suggests...a reasonable offering...
