3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
I’ve seen this on the shelves here for quite awhile now, and finally picked some up last week. 12oz bottle poured into a stemmed lager glass.
Pours a deep black, like a stout. Small beige head on top that dissipates very quickly. Aroma of hot chocolate, dry husky grains, graham crackers. Easy subtle feel. Though this beer looks heavy, it is very light on the palate. Almost too easy to drink this one.
Heavy-hitting roasted chocolate flavors present. Sweet mellow flavors meld with a dry cracker finish. Cereal grains on the back end. This little beer packs on the flavor. This is organic too? Nice. A nice little beer here. This is a style that is underrated in my mind, and one I need to revisit more and more. Cool label art to boot.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
12 oz can marked with a BB date of May 2015.
Huge, foamy tan head over a nearly opaque, dark brown body.
Rich, malty and complex. This drinks like an ale. Creamy smooth mouthfeel mimics a nitro tap origin. Lasting aftertaste of dark malts and earthy/herbal hops.
O: closer to a stout than any black lager I’ve had, this also may be the best.

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Very good. Appearance is a thick light tan, long lasting head with lots of lace and an almost opaque, but clear black brown color. Aroma is roast up front then dark leather, meat, coffee, malt. cocoa. Flavor’s like nose, dryish at first, then with the other qualities including tang, there’s a bit of sweet in the finish. Body is good, tho perhaps a bit thin. Very quaff-able. I’d like to have another right away.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
3/19/15 (Can) - Dark black pour, roasted malt and coffee scents were very strong and desirable. Taste was even better, excellent roasted malt and chocolate. Very smooth to drink, minimal carbonation, light in both texture and ABV. Nice paring with desert. Overall very good offering!

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Not much of an aroma - cardboard malts and something like old split pea and ham soup. A little weird. Flavor is where it shines more - lots of tasty malt roast, something vaguely bacon-ish, and more roast hitting in the finish. Salty. Some bread notes. I’ve stated my love before of a well-done schwarzbier, and while this isn’t among the tops of the style, IMO, it’s got the main elements that make it drinkable, flavorful, and yet light enough to quaff.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 oz can purchased as part of a mix a six at K-7 Liquors in Shawnee, Kansas. Best Before 07/09/15 printed on the bottom of the can. The pour is black brown with a bit of golden on the pour with a well formed ½ inch light tan head. The aroma is softly sweet bread like malt, along with a whisper of roast. Fresh nose. The taste is dry roast cracker malt, soft sweet caramel bread, then moves to a dry mineral grassy finish. Nice transition of flavors. The palate is light bodied with soft carbonation and the clean dry finish. Easy drinking, tasty beer.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
The beer pours a clear reddish brown with a huge khaki head that fades slowly. The aroma blends roasted malts and lager yeast, and the taste is mildly umami and a touch sour with a malty aftertaste that is slightly roasty. The palate fuses a medium body, slick texture, and a soft carbonation.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours quite reddish dark with a soapy beige head. The aroma has smooth roasted malt, dark chocolate, light apple, a bit of spice and some English earthy yeastiness. Pretty nice. It has a fairly light body with a mild amount of somewhat sharp carbonation. The taste is a bit of a toned down version of the aroma with more of a dryness, sharper cocoa presence and some woodiness. The finish has a bit more of the woody earthy hops. Pretty good schwartz.
