Harvest the flavors of fall with a bottle opener and a stroll down the craft-brewed beer aisle. Four+ Punk’n Ale is the pick of the crop with notes of roasted pumpkin and seasonal spices. Savory. Crisp. The sweetness is in the celebration, not on the palate.

Hazy, amber-brown with a white head. The aroma has nutmeg, cinnamon, and light pumpkin. It has a medium body with slightly sticky texture and average carbonation. The taste begins mildly sweet and finishes with a little roasted flavor.

Bottle from Craftsman Ale House. No head or carbonation at all. Heavy pumpkin aroma. Sweet and slightly sour taste. Pretty tasty despite marginal appearance and aroma. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Beer #1 in our annual Halloween pumpkin beer tasting. 12 oz bottle. Nose is fairly typical for style, with lots of pie spices up front with the meaty aroma of actual pumpkin noticeable. Pours slightly hazy pumpkin orange with a medium off-white head with decent retention; leaves a little lace. Taste is sweet and savory, roasty; tastes like pumpkin pie, clove is strong. Body is medium to thin, mouthfeel creamy. This is tasting really good right now, but it’s my first pumpkin beer of the day. After tasting all the other ones we have lined up, I wonder if this one might not seem as impressive as it tastes right now. It’s a real straight-forward, yet well-crafted example of the style.

Pours a deep bronze color, little lacing is left on the glass. Aroma of pumpkin, caramel and spice. In the taste, mostly malt and pumpkin. A bit more hop influence than many examples of the style, with a hop/spice bite. Nutmeg, all spice and coriander dial in the holiday spices, but faint which makes for an easier drinking beverage. Nice malt and pumpkin flavor. Overall, a solid pumpkin ale. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Pours a clear copper body with a one finger fizzy white head that left a bit of lace. The nose is pretty interesting, lots of roasted pumpkin, some peanut like notes, some burnt squash, dry husky malt. The flavor is lightly sweet with tons of roasted squash. This tastes like pumpkin soup. Very little spicing, maybe a touch of nutmeg comes through, but that’s about it. This is a beer for those who complain that Pumpkin beers are all spice and don’t taste like pumpkin. Lighter bodied with soft fizzy carbonation, a minimal amount of clinginess on the finish. Very interesting beer, not even sure that I like it all that much, but it is certainly a change of pace from most Pumpkin beers.
