COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Harvest the flavors of fall with a bottle opener and a stroll down the craft-brewed beer aisle. Four+ Punkín Ale is the pick of the crop with notes of roasted pumpkin and seasonal spices. Savory. Crisp. The sweetness is in the celebration, not on the palate.

Bottle. Pours a clear copper body with a one finger fizzy white head that left a bit of lace. The nose is pretty interesting, lots of roasted pumpkin, some peanut like notes, some burnt squash, dry husky malt. The flavor is lightly sweet with tons of roasted squash. This tastes like pumpkin soup. Very little spicing, maybe a touch of nutmeg comes through, but thatís about it. This is a beer for those who complain that Pumpkin beers are all spice and donít taste like pumpkin. Lighter bodied with soft fizzy carbonation, a minimal amount of clinginess on the finish. Very interesting beer, not even sure that I like it all that much, but it is certainly a change of pace from most Pumpkin beers.

Pint at Edwardsvilleís Oktoberfest. It came in a plastic cup. Golden orange with a little foam. Pumpkins and spices in both flavor and aroma. Not really enough of either. I like these beers to taste like a pumpkin pie. This does not get there.

12oz bottle. Best before 3/11/14. Mostly clear orange color. Some fine particles visible floating in the body. Good thin off-white head. Good pumpkiny spice nose. Good webs of lace. Medium body, feels reasonably full for such a light ABV. Almost a creamy texture. Smooth, crisp lighter carbonation. More dry finish. Solid, hearty pumpkin flavor. Light spice - not too spicy, not too sweet. Usually light pumpkin ales donít do anything for me, but this one is pretty well-done. Moderate bitter taste, minimal sweet. My new favorite light pumpkin ale. Easy-drinking and sessionable. Doesnít stand up to food, though. Became flavorless when I paired it with corn bisque.

Very roasted/nearly burnt pumpkin aroma with some hinted spice. Appearance is a darkened gold with some decent lacing. Carbonated pumpkin overtones with some vanilla, spices and herbs available to the palate. Overall, Not a bad pumpkin ale, pretty basic, yet not bad. C rating.

I poured a 12oz bottle into a tulip glass. It had a best before date of 1/29/14 and cost $2.50 ($0.21 per ounce).

Appearance: Pumpkin-skin orange hue. Hazy, but translucent. Pours to an average-sized, off-white, foamy head which mostly dissipates and leaves some lacing on the glass.

Smell: An odd combination of rustic spices with authentic pumpkin flesh. Not sweet or pie-like.

Taste: Uinta is a brewery Iíve enjoyed exploring over the last year or two, and Iíve liked all of their beers that Iíve had. That is until I tried the Punkín. This is not your average pumpkin beer - if it were, itíd be much better. This beer has an unusual spice palette that opts for sheer rusticness over sweetness or familiar liquid pie flavor.

Itís actually a bit difficult to describe whatís going on here. The spices are likely nutmeg and cinnamon, but they donít have the familiar sweet combination you get in most other brews of the style. Itís like liquefied potpourri - bitter, astringent and earthy. The label indicates the beer is made with organic pumpkin, and itís possible that what Iím tasting actually is the pumpkin itself rather than sweetened puree used in so many other beers. Thatís fine, but the result is a bad-tasting beer. These flavors just donít work together. I even get a salty, almost bile-like flavor on the finish, which is quite off-putting after each swig. Finishing the serving was a challenge.

Drinkability: Supposedly, this beer is only 4% ABV, though I canít get confirmation on that as itís not listed on the breweryís website or the bottle itself. If it is that light in weight, itís definitely impressive since thereís a lot of body here. The mouthfeel is thin and crisp and while I donít particularly care for the taste, the drinking process is at least easy.

12 oz bottle. Dark copper pour. Aroma of moldy gym socks. Taste is loaded with burnt cinnamon, pumpkin spice, and nutmeg. Not much pumpkin though. One of the worst pumpkin beers I have had. Has a metallic taste. Take the spices away and u have nothing. Itís bland and boring.
