COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Solstice Kölsch Style Ale is named for the lighter-style ales originating in the city of Cologne, Germany, whose history of brewing dates back to 874. Cologne’s beers differed from neighboring German beers in that they were top fermenting beers, versus bottom fermenting. A modern Kölsch was as defined in 1986 by the Kölsch Konvention as being pale, hop-accented, top fermented, and filtered. Solstice defines the style! Uinta chose the name Solstice to acknowledge the sunny disposition of the beer and to celebrate the changing of the seasons.

Pours a golden yellow/amber. Aromas of lemon, grains, celery. Flavor is crisp, dry, sweet malt, and a mild hop.

Draft. one finger lacy head that dissipates slowly. pale light golden appearance. Fruity, berry aroma. Quick, smooth finish. Too thin - more like a coors light without the after-taste (ok, probably a little harsh). Great beer, though, for a penalty beer in a drinking game . . . harsh enough to impose pain but not as brutal as college beers used to be.

bhensonb (10792) - Woodland, California, USA - AUG 22, 2006
Light aroma of malt and citrus. Pale gold color with frothy white head. Very light taste - citrus like, very thin, a bit of wet paper, a very little hop at the end. Very drinkable, but so is water. Having said that, it is head and shoulders above Budweiser. And eventually some bitter hop arises to be noticed. Maybe even a hint of apricot. There are some sleeper aspects.

Murky golden color with a white, whispy head. Malty taste with hints of citrus. Crisp and clean on the palate. Refreshing and decent.

Bottled. Pours a pale clear straw color with large but diminshing lacy white head. Rather light body and carbonation. Lightly citrus aroma. The taste is lightly spicy, sort of like a watered-down Belgian style. Everything about this beer is barely there except for the crisp citrus finish.

A decent summer beer, but way too light, even for the style. Toasted cereal maltiness with some zesty citrus spice

found in a microbrew pack. Decent for the style, but mostly middle of the road type beer. Very little hops, but enough flavor.

hmm, I thought alcohol was illegal in Utah -- guess not! This is a very light and unsweet beer, great as a summer refresher. Nice medium golden color with hints of hefeweizen floating sediment (the kolsch style can resemble anything from an amber lager to a wheat beer, so this isn’t surprising). Aroma is very weak and shows some corn elements of macro-brews. However, the aroma doesn’t pervade the other aspects -- this beer has a great light mouthfeel, carbonation and flavor not unlike what one would expect from an unsweetened ginger ale.

Bottle: Pale straw color, very clear, fairly large foamy white head, extremely light carbonation, very attractive lacing.   Lemon grass aroma, very slight vegetable as well.   Unfortunately a fairly strong overcooked vegetable flavor right up front, slightly rubbery too.   A bit below average on body and mouthfeel.   Fairly crisp finish, very slight lemony tinge at the exit, grainy, but still with an overcooked vegetable wrapped in a ballon like flavor on the exit.   WTF!
