COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Solstice Kölsch Style Ale is named for the lighter-style ales originating in the city of Cologne, Germany, whose history of brewing dates back to 874. Cologne’s beers differed from neighboring German beers in that they were top fermenting beers, versus bottom fermenting. A modern Kölsch was as defined in 1986 by the Kölsch Konvention as being pale, hop-accented, top fermented, and filtered. Solstice defines the style! Uinta chose the name Solstice to acknowledge the sunny disposition of the beer and to celebrate the changing of the seasons.

Bottled (as Hoo Doo Kölsch@Oliver Twist, Stockholm). Hazy yellowish golden colour with a small white head. Aroma is grainy, herbal, some bready malts along with some slight earthy and grassy notes. Flavour is rather similar with a nice bitterness in the finish. Balanced and for once quite close quite close to the German Kölsch.

Bottled at Oliver Twist, Stockholm. Hazy deep golden, faint head. Fruityn red apple aroma. Sweetish with clean mouthfeel and light body. Salty and fruit, notes of grass. Long salty bitterness. Not reminiscent of real Colognian kölsches, but a decent golden ale.

bhensonb (8954) - Woodland, California, USA - AUG 22, 2006
Light aroma of malt and citrus. Pale gold color with frothy white head. Very light taste - citrus like, very thin, a bit of wet paper, a very little hop at the end. Very drinkable, but so is water. Having said that, it is head and shoulders above Budweiser. And eventually some bitter hop arises to be noticed. Maybe even a hint of apricot. There are some sleeper aspects.

Tap at The Bayou, SLC. Very pale golden beer with a creamy white head that sticks around. Aroma is of clean pale malt and not much else. Fresh pale malt flavour, very clean and crisp. No off-flavours, but there isn’t a lot of character either. Seems a bit industrial.
