UPDATED: OCT 3, 2014 "Pretty nice amber red lager with lots of little subtleties. Vanilla, Carmel, toasted malt and a nice crisp hop bite. Nice session brew that is anything but boring..."

WTF is going on with this beer? Iíve never had anything like it before, so it gets points for creativity. However, I donít really care for it. Sweet, malty, strange hop bite, an aftertaste I canít put my finger on. Perplexing...

pours clear dark golden-orange with a small yet persistent off-white cap, some lacing traces. toasted spicy maltiness, few well-dosed caramel and nutty malts, noble grass and savant pepper, soft rounded lager fruity notes, light earthy and floral notes. moderate carbonation, light body - never watery, dry crisp herbal-grassy-peppery finish. circumstantial appreciation: itís the first day of spring and itís sort of snowing. highly quaffable and very well crafted.

Tried one immediately after skiing 8 runs in 4 hrs. @ Mad River Glen VT - quite restorative! Great looking and decent flavor, with appropriate balance of malt & hops. Liked their Hop Nosh in a can as well.

Clear, amber pour wit a frothy, off-white head. The aroma has milk chocolate, caramel, and mild vanilla. It has a light body with somewhat thin texture and average carbonation. The taste is sweet with quick finish.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
I poured a 12oz bottle into a mason jar. It had a best before date of 3/21/14 and cost $2.50 ($0.21 per ounce).
Appearance: Beautiful shade of amber/magenta. Crystal clear with plenty of carbonation visible. Pours to a large, white, frothy head which laces and retains extremely well.
Smell: Fairly typical amber lager aroma, nothing especially unique.
Taste: I tend to get a little apprehensive about "winter lagers" since they seem to be regular, boring lagers with an abundance of spice to them. Uinta Yard Sale Winter Lager is a straight up amber lager with nothing added - because it doesnít need anything more. This is a more than solid lager with plenty of character. My only beef is that itís a winter seasonal instead of a perennial offering.
The palette here is rather complex for a lager, though I wouldnít describe it as particularly robust. A tasty combination of the darker golden malts - amber, honey, caramel, etc. Thereís a general malty sweetness throughout the first two thirds of the swig with a touch of toasted bread flavor. Itís wraps up with just a touch of spicy/earthy bitterness on the finish. This is exactly what an amber lager should be.
Drinkability: The first thing I noticed about Uinta Yard Sale Winter Lager was how easy it was to drink. The mouthfeel is on the thinner side, but thereís some distinct crispness as it goes down. The aftertaste is fairly clean, with just a slight toasted malt flavor that fades. Iím not sure of the ABV because itís not on the bottle or the website, so Iíd estimate it to be between 5 and 6%. Plenty of body to enjoy, but still light enough to enjoy in multiple servings.
