3.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottled. Cloudy red. Acidic, vinous grape aroma. Lightly fruity with clean, rounded mouthfeel. Complex and unusual with a lot of interesting flavours. Points deducted for hard mouthfeel.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Absolutely gorgeous deep-red colour; head pinkish, gone in secs. Fruit nose: is it cherry, is it grape, is it anything else? Vinous anyway, bit of tobacco as well. Grape juice with the sugars removed, fruit acids - without the tannines from the kernels - dominate the taste. Great, but somewhere I preferred their former grapes (I’m told they changed) - the preferences of the rich. Bit of cork, earthy as well. Medium bodied, acidburn, fruitesters, dry. Impressive any way to look at it.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Any first impressions?
-A veil of head hangs on to the opaque pinkish-red.
-Heavily corked aroma, with balsamic undercurrents and hiding hay.
-Dirty earth generously spread over sweet black grapes.
-Important carbonation enlivens the somewhat lazy mouthfeel.
What if you dig deeper?
-The sweet black grapiness develops, with time, into a long finish.
-Dry earth and leather contribute healthily to that finale.
-Some tartness within the fruitiness, but definitely not overdone.
-Another dusty but tasty number from Uitzet, but I admit the dustiness feels exaggerated to me.
Bottle; no date.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Purple/red color is gorgeous to look at. The head is initially good sized, but quickly diminishes to a white ring. Cabernet Sauvignon blackcurrant character is attenuated by a huge leather/cork character that evolves as it breathes. Very vinous, pretty dry, somewhat meaty and definitely leafy in its woody, “chewing on branches” character that dries out. Earthy in that fashion, it becomes more Merlot-like, plumy and fleshy. Slightly sweet at first contact, it boasts an infinite funk repertoire. Grapes and hay, blueberries and pie crust, nicely juicy, moisty and toasty. Just plenty of unexpected flavours that manage to work together in a basement/cobwebby yeast atmosphere. Strong carbonation, medium bodied, very soft astringency for what it is. Enormously unclean, like their kriek, but terribly fun to try in that fashion.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tasted the “original batch” thanks to Dr Bill. Reddish gold color. Small head. Aroma is grape must and funk. Medium bodied beer. Very weird and hard to describe Very vinous and wine like, yet also very funky, leather and barnyard and sour. Somewhat sweet malts, but overpowered by the lambic like tartness and sourness. Very oaky and tannic. It seemed more like a wine than a beer. Not sure if I liked it or not. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and sharp. Aftertaste is tart.

2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Leather, wax, earth, cork, herbal hops, wood, cherries, grapes and alcohol are all notable in the aroma. Very hazy, bright reddish-brown coloured body is topped by a fizzy, pink-tinged head that recedes rapidly to ring. Strong earth, cork and strong acidity in the very dry flavour. Grapes emerge in the aftertaste. Dusty and somewhat astringent and puckering with plenty of tannins and vinegary, balsamic notes. Strong, lively fine bubbled carbonation is surprisingly quite prickly on the tongue. This one didn’t work for me nearly as well as for others in the session. Bottle sampled with MartinT, Olivier_MTL, Rastacouere and Siroy.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle conditioned. Bottled 11/02. 750 ml, bottle opened with a menacing hiss and a distinct threat of gushing, but just dredgeg up some bizarre crimson yeast sediment. This resulted in a very hazy red purple colour and a head that closely resembled raspberry ripple ice cream, but finally settled down to a lasting thin pinky white head. First aroma is a subdued barnyard tartness mingled with a sort of syrupy raspberry note, as it warms I swear I detected toothpaste as well. Delicate lambic tartness in the mouth with some dry fruitiness reminiscient of cherry skins. Didn't get any obvious impression of grapiness. Finish is moderately dry with hints of fruit and some lingering lambic notes.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
08.25.05 750ml bottle, corked and capped, undated. Dingy red pour looks quite a bit like a dusky beaujolais nouveaux or an organic cranberry juice. Only a tiny, sudsy head of large bubble at first, followed by an upwelling of fine, pink dense bubbles like a soda, and then all is quiet, still. Aroma is musty, mineral, sulfur, some grapey, jam-like sweetness, nothing at all beery. At first, the beer is plain, a bit sour, and very corky and astringent. As it warms a stronger vinous quality arises along with a more assertive tartness. Grape skins, astringent tannins, must, and a light and lasting vinous quality.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tasted the “original batch” thanks to Dr Bill. It pours with a red body, topped with a thin head and little lacing. The aroma is slightly sweet and slightly tart with grape notes and a slight mustiness. The flavor is slightly tart and vinious with a touch of sweetness and some barnyard. Light bodied, crisp and dry.
