BlackForestCO (489), Fort Collins and Black Forest, Colorado, USA May 31, 2008 Bottle shared by Crosling, thanks Nick. This was the surprise of the night. Poured a murky chestnut brown color with a thin off-white head that left some decent lacing. Aroma of Belgian candi sugar, light biscuit, dark fruit (plum and fig, light apple), and a bit of yeast. Lightly sweet malt entry with some candi sugar that isn’t overpoweringly sweet and some light caramel leads into a lightly tart fruitiness that includes plum, fig, and light apple with some yeast and grape on the finish. Nice carbonation and moderate dryness. I am not real big on Belgian Strongs, but this one kicked ass.
Mitch_Wayne (77), Kokkola, Finland Aug 20, 2008 Sweet roasted caramelly aroma. Nicely full body. The dryness in the end suprises, especially when it doesn’t taste very hoppy. Balanced stuff and warms nicely in the winter. JK54B (269), Finland Aug 18, 2008 A 0.75L bottle from Alko shop. Ruby red brownish colour. Pale brown head. Floating particles. Soft mild hoppiness. Also some fresh grass and prunes in the taste. Some syrup in the nose. BeerandBlues2 (2451), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Aug 15, 2008 750 mL bottle purchased at Liquor Max in Loveland, CO. Pours cloudy and lightly particulate dark brown with an average, fizzy, light brown head, somewhat lasting with fair lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (cookie, caramel, toffee), average hops (flowers, perfume), heavy yeast (dough, leather) with noted of alcohol, dates, port, and maple syrup. Full bodied, alcoholic texture, average carbonation, and a bitter finish. Average duration, moderate sweetness and acidity, light bitterness. thomat (555), Göteborg, Sweden Aug 10, 2008 Very dark brown with a thick tan head.
malty and fruity notes. malt, hops and some sweetness. full body with a balanced finish. wyzzywyz22 (299), Wirral, Merseyside, England Aug 8, 2008 Bottle, Belgian Belly, Chorlton. Very dark brown colour with a lorra lorra floaters.
Aroma was sweet malt with some dark fruit and spices. Flavour was more sweet malt, raisin, yeast and nutmeg. The 10% is pretty well masked. Finished sweet too. Solid effort, but falls short of excellence.
