3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Can from Tokyu Food Show. Copper coloured with big beige head that fades quite quickly. Very clear. Aroma is fruity, maybe strawberry bit slightly creamy too. Also lots of sweet malt in there and a little bit of funkiness. And some mustiness too. Taste is quite pleasant, initially sweet malt, then a touch of fruitiness with just a hint of bitterness at the end. Quite thin and lifeless though. Quite like the funky element with the creaminess, but probably wonít rush to have it again. In conclusion, ok.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
My Bottom Line:
Mildly toasted and caramelized malts dwell in a fragile body with big bubbles and loose sugars.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam covers the hazy dark amber.
-The feeble hop finish is not very interesting.
-This is not an Alt. Itís a rather weak, nondescript Amber Ale.
-It may be a drinkable brew, but itís still an amateurish effort.

2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Very bland. Mediocre - yet again a Japanese Alt missing any semblance of hops. Quite thin, fizzy and malt heavy. Well not really, but thatís all there is - caramel and bread malt. Quite macro tasting. Not one to go back to, considering what is on offer in Japan for far less coin.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Wife brought this back from Tokyo. Pours a coppery red-orange color. It smells slightly fruity and malty. It has a thick, cream colored head. My second whiff was a bit metallic, but only slightly. It kind of reminds me of Rogue Dead Guy Ale but not as sweet. It has a smooth, slightly funky after taste. Itís not as hoppy as Dead Guy either. After the beer warms up a bit I can definitely taste some subtle fruity notes.

Can from Tokyu in Shibuya. Fruity aroma, light caramel, some hops. Rather dry in general. Typical medium copper color with a low off-white head. Somewhat thin malt flavor, with some caramel and pretty good hopping. A touch of sour as well. Not much going on really. Dry finish is pleasant enough. Rather thin body as well. Very thin, watery, and uninspired Altbier.

I entered the style of this beer as Marzen - that was a guess. Anyone who has a better idea, feel free to change it. That said, the brew has a curious German hoppiness to it that reminds me of an Oktoberfest or Vienna, though not quite as sweet as a Vienna, IMHO. Red in the glass. Medium-sized body - not bad if you like that style.
