ansermadide (236), Kyle, Texas, USA Aug 4, 2008 (Sample at Uncle Billy’s on August 2, 2008) Damn, that’s dark for an IPA! Deep mahogany red. Can’t see anything through it but barely a faint glow and a glisten of light. A light head remaining after all this time. As much hop aroma as the pale ale. I sink my tongue in… a little thick, more alcohol. Warmer, yep, more alcohol. As I exhale I detect something… musky-bitter. Just barely failing (in my opinion) of acceptable amongst the IPA norm. But why is it so dark??? Seems more malty with maybe more caramel than most IPAs. That may have something to do with the color. When IPAs cross-breed with brown ales, what do you call it? Brown chicken brown cow! BlackForestCO (549), Fort Collins and Black Forest, Colorado, USA Jun 9, 2008 On tap. Poured a hazy golden-amber color with a moderate off-white head that left some nice lacing. Nice leafy hop aroma with pine resin and light citrus. Flavor was moderately bitter with a nice piny, sticky hoppiness and moderate citrus (grapefruit, orange) finish with a lingering hop bitterness. Tasted really fresh, and went very well with the habanero wings and chili fries. oreogobbler (173), Austin, Texas, USA Feb 6, 2008 (Cask) Sweet grapefruit aroma. Dark yellow no head. Flavor: Sweet acidic fruit followed by a well balanced hop finish. slimchill (645), Austin, Texas, USA Feb 6, 2008 Draught (cask). Nose is light citrus hops. Cloudy orange with minimal white head. Very full-bodied, huge tropical fruit flavor. Highly drinkable. Zinister (892), Houston, Texas, USA Jan 20, 2008 Foam Rangers January meeting. Rich golden color with big hops on the nose. Flavor is full of hops with some nice malts. Tasty.
