(Sample at Uncle Billy’s on August 2, 2008) Damn, that’s dark for an IPA! Deep mahogany red. Can’t see anything through it but barely a faint glow and a glisten of light. A light head remaining after all this time. As much hop aroma as the pale ale. I sink my tongue in… a little thick, more alcohol. Warmer, yep, more alcohol. As I exhale I detect something… musky-bitter. Just barely failing (in my opinion) of acceptable amongst the IPA norm. But why is it so dark??? Seems more malty with maybe more caramel than most IPAs. That may have something to do with the color. When IPAs cross-breed with brown ales, what do you call it? Brown chicken brown cow!

On tap. Poured a hazy golden-amber color with a moderate off-white head that left some nice lacing. Nice leafy hop aroma with pine resin and light citrus. Flavor was moderately bitter with a nice piny, sticky hoppiness and moderate citrus (grapefruit, orange) finish with a lingering hop bitterness. Tasted really fresh, and went very well with the habanero wings and chili fries.

From sampler (almost got a pint)- solid golden color, non transparent. Heavy aroma of hops, very nice. Hits the mouth with hop overload (is it a double IPA?), medium body and malt, solid finish of hops/ acidic aftertaste. Not for the weak of heart, but very good!

Wonderful IPA. My facorite of the five beers that I tried, had to get a growler to bring more of this home. Very well hopped, perfect carbonation, complemented the food well too. I guess I’m a hop lover. Fair winds and following seas, Michael Jackson...

Great beer...good aroma and flavor from the hops...good level of bitterness. Nice malt to back it up. The cask version was absolutely delicious. Very smooth & the carbonation was perfect for a cask. Great job, Brian.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: OCT 23, 2007 Amberish color, with a very hoppy smell and taste. A touch of sweetness, but I found this very similar to their pale ale, but a touch more bitter, perhaps. A nice strongly hopped IPA. I’d like to try this again now that I’m much fonder of IPAs than when I first rated this.

UPDATED: JUL 4, 2007 The only thing I can see going against the beers here so far are the silly names. At least this one was born with none. Deep amber or red color, nice full body and superb hopping. My crappy means of writing do few beers justice. Let Brian’s skills as an excellent bewer be known through his work and not my words. Yum.
