It’s a simple fact of life: bacon makes everything better. From eggs to ice cream, delicious bacon is turning up just about everywhere, Our uncommon contribution to this cured pork renaissance is the Bacon Brown Ale. This is a West Coast Nut Brown Ale brewed with toasted buckwheat and a generous serving of bacon-cured pork.

Ruby brown with fluffy beige head. Some fruity woodsmoke, a touch of brineyness and rich fruitiness. Quite forceful carbonation, fairly harsh smoke a touch of chocolate and a tobacco finish. Fairly light in body with a harsh astringent note that comes and goes.

Aroma is malts, smokey and, um, bacon. The flavor is malts, medium sweetness and a tart/fruit finish. The bacon was really in the palate, with grease and fat that was reminiscent of bacon.

Tried to pour this from the can into an English pint... Foam started gushing from the can before I could even get it over the glass, and then I proceeded to slowly pour a glass of foam. After about five minutes I finally got most of the beer in the glass, while still maintaining an epic head. The end result is a reddish brown beer with a thick tan head. Aroma is sweet grainy malt with not much else going on - but I can’t expect much would penetrate the dense foam. Initial flavor is quite metallic, and then turns into some alcohol. There is a smoky finish with a touch of chocolate, but no real bacon flavor. Medium bodied and overly carbonated. Besides waiting out the foam, the carbonation competes with and overwhelms the smokiness. Certainly drinkable, but I was pretty underwhelmed.

Dark reddy amber body with short lasting head. Burnt notes slightly overshadow the caramel and maple syrup.

On tap at Capitol Beer, Sacramento. Pours copper with a nice beige head and a maple aroma. There is a standard brown ale base with lots of smoke and a very dry finish.

500ml can. All foam this one as it starts off with a mountain of thick brown foam that takes awhile to sette. Hiding underneath the foam is a rather tasty beer.
