COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
It’s a simple fact of life: bacon makes everything better. From eggs to ice cream, delicious bacon is turning up just about everywhere, Our uncommon contribution to this cured pork renaissance is the Bacon Brown Ale. This is a West Coast Nut Brown Ale brewed with toasted buckwheat and a generous serving of bacon-cured pork.

Keg at the Euston Tap, 22/01/14. Dark chestnut brown with a big old beige head. Nose is toffee, subtle smoke, oatmeal tones, biscuit. Taste is fairly sweet throughout, toffee fudge, bubblegum, less of the smoke, brown sugars. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, sweet closure. Ok offering, a little overly sweet and sugary, lacks depth for 6.8%, would struggle with more than a half of this.

Big beige head. Clear deep dark red body. Fruity earthy odd aroma. Sweet fruity wild berry taste with smoky roasty notes. Full-bodied. Mild, soft, slightly flat mouthfeel. Sweetish fruity herbal wild berry aftertaste with perfumy candy notes. It’s really odd, but also quite nice. (0.564l can, from Kihoskh, Copenhagen.)

50cl can. I am a vegetarian, but also a ticker... ;-) clear brown, smooth light brown head. aroma is malts, faint mild hops and perhaps a slightly salty note. flavor is malts, almost no hops, ends also malty, very typical brown ale flavor i’d say. The only thing slightly indicating bacon added is a glue like palate, like the fat on meat. I can usually detect meat in quite small doses, only the palate gives the beer away. schlenkerla tastes lots more like meat than this one, and schelnkerla is even vegetarian.

On tap at Bøker & Børst, Stavanger. Pours clear dark brown, small creamy beige head.Aroma is sweet malty with a whiff of flower, more specific rose. Taste is sweet, bordering cloying, fat and sugary mouthfeel, almost no traces of bacon or smoke, mediocre beer.

16 ounce can. Pours a mostly clear dark red brown color with a small white head. A nice smooth coffee and chocolate toast nose. The flavor is berries, toast, light smoke, fruity hops. Very flavorful and smooth. Nice. I love me some hoppy brown ales, and pork is a bonus.

Can. Pours a mostly clear very dark brown color with a moderate tan head on there. Nose has hints of roasting and toasting, and a bit of caramel underneath. Taste is toasty and has just a hint of bacon, though I wouldn’t have guessed based on flavor alone. Not bad.
