can, an interesting one at that... dark brown beer with a big medium tan head that rises three fingers, nice retention... the aroma is light anise and chocolate, ok... the first sip is distracting with carbonation, licorice and anise as accents are a nice touch, a bit boring and too sweet but ok... great when mixed with Belgian Red

UPDATED: MAY 12, 2012 Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2012. Black beer witha small beige head. Malty chocolate, cocoa aroma, hop notes, roasted. Chocolate flavor, roasted, cocoa, malty, figs, vinous notes, hoppy, nicely balanced smooth beer with a nice cocoa finish.

Nice drinking porter. Interesting being in a can - IPA’, Ales, Ambers sure but a porter it was odd but very good, Once I got past the can this has great dark malt and chocolate flavors. Good finish this was a very good beer.

Sampled at CanFest 2011 in Reno. This was quite nice though the can graphic is confusing. Pours a dark brown with a really strong roasty malt flavor that doesn’t overpower. Sort of a mix of coffee and chocolate.

Draft @ the trappist in oakland. Frothy tan top over a dark brown beer. Flavors are overrun by the awkward belgian yeast used...maybe not awkward to you, but belgian yeast usually just tastes fucking whorish to me, unless its a lambic yeast or some other thing floating around the skied of belgium...but I doubt that banana-y, cobwebby, phlemg-inducing, muddled gross yeast used in practically all non-sour/wild/lambic belgian yeast is floating around in the sky...tastes more like they grow that shit from within the legs of belgian whores in the bad parts of belgian towns...I bet if any other country was as fucked in the head as the belgians and starting using vaginal yeast to ferment beers, everyones beers would taste what we currently refer to as "belgian". In any event, this beer has that whorish yeast infection taste of belgian yeast and thus, any other nuances that could be present...like the advertised star anise and black licorice (as if there is another form of real licorice) is completely swalled in a muddled mess of awkward belgian yeast. That’s all I have to say about this beer. Fuck.ing.whorish.

Canned. Inky dark brown to black pour, whitish head. but it disappears Somewhat fizzy, strong mint/licorice/anise scents. Fairly carbonated. PRett good.

(on tap @ Ølbaren) Pours black with medium, toffee head. Decent retention and lace. Aroma is caramel, vanilla, licorice, chalk and milk. Creamy on the palate, full-bodied, softly carbonated with a slightly boozy finish. The taste is smooth, balanced and dark - neither too bitter nor too sweet. Very complex and pleasant. Girlfriend says: "A bit disappointed by the taste after such a promising aroma."

Draft. A pitch blackbeer with a dark brown head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, caramel, and chocolate. The flavor is sweet with notes of roasted malt, alcohol, caramel, and wood, leading to a dry roasted finish.

From the can. Dark but somewhat translucent. Decent tannish colored head. Roasty toasty taste of malt and coffee. Nice and bold.
