COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is a Belgian-style double brewed with a traditional coriander, and an uncommon addition of kaffir lime and lemongrass. An amber body, rich, flavorful, absolutely delicious, and entirely too drinkable for a beer thatís 8.5% ABV.

Can from the LCBO via jerc - thanks, Jer! Dark red-copper body with a thin tan head. Aroma is odd - getting more of a barley wine vibe than anything "Belgian-style", with barley candy sweetness, resiny hops, and perhaps a hint of citrus. Flavour starts quite sweet with dark sugary malt, followed by a distinct hit of lime, and a warm, boozy finish that has a bit too much residual sweetness for my taste. Not completely awful, but a bit of a mess, really.

Clear dark body with reddish-brown hue and stocky head of three fingers. Aroma of molasses, cane sugar, caramel and butter with hints of floral hops. Flavor has a strong, bitter-sweet quality but lets the warming alcohol seep.Viscous mouthfeel and coarsely bitter lingering aftertaste.

This double poured a deep amber colour with a nice, big brown head. Scents include ripe fruit, caramel, cooked veggies and spices. First swig was sweet and creamy with flavours of cinnamon and brown sugar most predominant. An almost oily mouthfeel with very low carbonation, it sits quite sweet on the palate. Flavours of caramel and yeast linger...

4-pack of cans, attached with a green handle and holders at the LCBO. Pours a clean copper colour with a frothy beige head, decent retention and a little lace. Sweet malt aromas with some brown sugars, mild dark fruits. The taste is very offensive to me though, with some grass and fish punchiness which completely kills it (donít get me wrong, I love Vietnamese food with fish sauce and lemongrass, but this is horrible). Thankfully, this putrid flavour does not linger too much and decent sweetness with hints of apples fades away slowly. Nice to have something uncommon and organic, but when something is too "off", it is not a good thing. Too bad I have 3 more cans.

[Can (473ml) c/o jercraigs] Pours a murky amber-brown with an average size semi-lasting frothy tan head. Aroma is big, and slightly odd, with dark fruit, lightly sour fruit, wood, herbs, yeast and a touch vinous. Flavour is yeasty and fruity first followed by herbs & spices, caramel malt, alcohol, some honey sweetness and hints of red wine. Average to medium bodied. Iím not sure what itís trying to be but itís decent, a bit too sweet for me, just good.

Yankee pint can, c/o "J" - thanks, man! Deep and clear ruby-amber pour, smallish off-white fluffy head. Vaguely DIPA resin/ boozy aroma with dry floral spicy notes. Taste is quite malty and citrusy, some booziness. thickish, decent carbonation, medium slightly bitter finish - not sure what itís supposed to be - the fruit is minimal, the bitterness even moreso.

Canned 14AUG12 Pours nice and toasted brown with some central light etching. Smells of lime, some sweet syrups, a little bit of belgian yeasts, some coriander, and the lemon grass. Taste is lightly tart, some alcohol, some bitterness, some candy. Medium on full body with hi carb and a semi dry finish. Not a good beer really.

473 mL can from LCBO served cool in a tulip glass. Cloudy deep mahogany with a fair orange-tan head. Fairly typical Dubbel aromas of rich, fruity malts, dark dried fruits, light minty herbals, faint citrus and lime, cola-like herbal notes, not as crazy as expected. Medium+ body with fine, fairly full effervescence. Plenty of rich maltiness, dark dried fruits, brown sugar, a bit of diacetyl, faint citrus and herbal notes, a bit of esters, a reasonable Dubbel without much craziness; lightly sweet with minimal bitterness and a pleasant, richly malty and lightly herbal finish. I ainít getting much in the way of exotic herbs/spices/flavors.

473 mL can. Pours dark amber brown with zero head. Leaves no lacing. Caramel and spice aromas, with subtle notes of lime leaf and lemongrass. Bready caramel malt and slight hop bitterness on the finish. Sweet and rich, sticky, coating mouthfeel, moderate carbonation and a bit of booze. Too sweet for me, would like to see more of that citrus zip. Good idea, bad execution?

It pours auburn with copper highlights, and is translucent; the head is beige and mousse-like. The aroma has notes of: toffee, biscuit, roasted malts, toast, raisins, and slight citrus-zest. The taste is medium sweet that finishes light bitter; there are notes of: lime-zest, coriander, toffee, caramel, and raisins. The palate is medium-heavy bodied, has medium-light carbonation, is slightly sticky, and has a long finish. Overall, the addition of kaffir lime and lemongrass are almost undetectable - regardless, it is a strong brew.
