jredmond (583), New Jersey, USA May 21, 2008 750mL bottle from Pwn3d. Aged for a couple of years. This beer pours a dark, dark brown body with no head. The aroma is surprising for a beer with this body - mostly cherry and other fruit. The taste is great - very smooth, the consistent spritzer carbonation that is unique to Unibroue, and the disguise of the plus 10% alcohol is impressive. I didnt taste any trace of alcohol. Pwn3d (578), NYC, New York, USA Jan 26, 2008 Updated: Jun 1, 2008I had half a glass and im buzzed. My asian friends face is bright red after a couple sips, LOLZ. Seemed to of aged nicely over the past 3.5 years. True dark brown with hazy nucleus. Off white head.. which is totally elimated after a couple minutes. Nose is on the hoppy side with some yeast notes. It does have some characteristics of a belgian sour ale. Full bodied and a bit less spritzer-like than most other Unibroue’s. Sugary Fruit/hop finish that is inviting for more sips. Dangerous and Delicious. stubby (311), Santee, California, USA May 24, 2005 Just about as fine as it gets. Absolutely dazzling complexity at cellar temp. Sweet, toffee, tart in a dried cherry sort of way. Very complex. No head. rajendra82 (630), Alpharetta, Georgia, USA Jul 9, 2005 The beer came in a handsome brown 750 ml. bomber with painted on information, a wire cage, and a cork. Pulling out the cork released a nice thud, giving indication of a strong carbonation.
The beer poured out reddish brown, and cloudy, with a three finger tall foamy head, and definitely had the Trappist style look down pat. The smell was also very authentic Belgian. The spicy, flowery, yeasty, and sweet aroma was enough to get my mouth watering immediately.
The taste was deceptively simple with sweet Red Delicious apple like start, and spicy cinnamon and sweet doughy middle. In other words this began as liquefied apple pie. But unlike the apple pie coming out of your mom’s over, this one also packed a rum raisin laden punch, and an herbal hop finish. Very complementary flavor profile had nothing clashing against each other. The alcohol was masterfully hidden, improving drinkability, and effectiveness.
I was not anticipating something this smooth out of Unibroue, but I was pleasantly surprised.
BigBastard (669), L.A., California, USA Sep 6, 2005 Very earthy and woody scents and flavors. Smoke, chocolate, spice, overripe fruit, they’re all there. I will hold some of this for chilly winter nights, this is really good.
