BigBastard (668), L.A., California, USA Jan 22, 2007 Another great one from Unibroue. Deep, rich fruit and spice flavor, like a port wine. Cherries, plums, raisins, cloves, cinnamon and candi sugar. Very rich, and velvety smooth. jrob21 (1251), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Jan 17, 2007 Muted Orange color with some white head that don’t quit. Yeast, leather, orange, spice aroma. Big full bodied strong beer. Maltiness coats your entire mouth. Then you swallow and get tastes of citrus and a slight bitter/alcohol finish. pilsnerrogge (1770), Finspång, Sweden Jan 17, 2007 [ 750 ml bottle] Muddy orange colour. Large, fast sinking head. Fruity, yeasty orange peel aroma. Sweet flavour with notes of citrus, yeast and aniseed. Long bitter, pine-y finish. RedHaze (370), Where the hell am I?, Nebraska, USA Jan 14, 2007
750ml with a date of Jan 6, 2006 on the side.
Pours a pale orange with a frothy two finger head that is very slow to settle to a heavy cap. The lacing that is left behind is very thick, and completely covers the insides of my glass.
Smel; lots of fruity aromas with apples, melons and some oranges. There’s also some spices with colves and pepper, and very yeasty. Overall, it’s a bit more mellow than I was expecting (or maybe hoping for).
Taste; very yeasty upfront, almost chalky. Then the fruits come out with oranges at first, followed by the apples and melon. The spices are nicely present with cloves and peeper, but there’s also a touch of cinnamon in there, with very little alcohol coming through at all.
Mouthfeel/Drinkability; as with all of the Unibroue beers that I’ve had so far the mouthfeel is good, with a medium body, and very smooth carbonation. Drinkability is very good, almost to good for the high abv. I found I had to force tmyself to slow down a little.
Overall this was a good beer, but there just seems to be a sameness with a lot of the Uniboue beers that I’ve had. I’m not sure if it’s the yeasts they use, or the styles that lead to this, or maye it’s just me. Whatever, this is pretty darn good no matter what the case. Furseth (1328), Kungälv, Sweden Jan 14, 2007 Bottle: Yellow/brown hazy colour, with a nice big head..
Aroma of Vine, citrus, yeast, and a little bit sour.In the end comes a nice sweet typical belgian nose.
Flavor is almost the same as the aroma, but more powerful, hopy and has a light to medium body(even as it has 10% ) Light to medium finish. A typical belgian beer, but is made in Canada.Nice! Beer, but share it with a good friend, don\t drink this a lone!!
pantani (1894), Salinas, California, USA Jan 13, 2007 Foggy gold, with a thin white head. Green apples, white wine, nutmeg, honey, citrus, and yeast in the aroma. Taste is citrus, yeast, light hop content. Fizzy body. WeeHeavySD (2940), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA Jan 6, 2007 750ml bottle. Pours golden yellow with a very large thick white head. The nose is slighty spicy with hints of fruit and sweetness. Tastes sweet and citrusy but doesn’t have much punch. It feels weaker then 10 much much weaker. Nothing special but not bad. Zeswaft (1000), Seattle, Washington, USA Jan 4, 2007 Probably the most unspectacular unibroue I’ve ever had. Pale copper color, big fizzy head. A pretty pronounced spiciness but other than that it was bland and boring. Better luck next year.
