timfoolery (482), California, USA May 4, 2008 Bottle from BevMo in Vacaville, CA. This one had complicated flavors and a good palate. I missed the rating a while back, so we’ll have to go by DTM’s. Besides, it’s retired. Échantillon d’une bouteille brune, 750 ml, dégustation « verticale » de Unibroue (de la 10 à la 17) chez Philippe Wouters, 4 avril 2008; oeil : dorée, légère effervescence, voilée; nez : pain, fruitée, alcool, léger houblon, sirop d’érable; bouche : crémeuse, poire, léger madérisé, léger houblon, fruitée, sirop d’érable, finale en alcool avec malt caramélisé, corps moyen; en résumé : un peu trop d’alcool Nate (2533), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 20, 2008 Bottle shared with Dana. Light fruity character, mild butterscotch, and some funky apple cider yeasty character. Golden amber hazy with thin white lacing head. Medium watery body with medium to vigorous carbonation. Silky and vibrant. Starts sweet, with candi sugar and apple cider and pear fruity character. Light bitter tangy finish, with lots of yeasty and sweet tripel undertones. Light, refreshing, with mild alcohol warming. Nice ale. DTM (541), Winters, California, USA Apr 18, 2008 Bottle form Bevmo in Vacaville, CA. Poured a murky yellow with a strong aroma of citurs. Very malty with fruit flavors of citrus and apple being the most dominate. It actually got a little better as it warmed a little. Could taste the alcohol a little, but still a good brew. Poobah (101), New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Apr 12, 2008 Lemony aroma. Meringue head that dissipates quickly. Cloudy, peach appearance. Malty, somewhat carbonated mouthfeel with sweet intro transitioning to warming, citrusy finish. Overall, very similar to a wheat beer but with a little more zing. craftycarl21 (510), South Hero, Vermont, USA Apr 11, 2008 courtesy of oteyj. pours a hazy light copper, much lighter than most belgian strongs. aroma of white wine (possibly due to production date of 2 years ago), yeast, yeast, and nectarine. nice flavor, somewhat astringent both with taste and alcohol, but still tasty. Certainly different from belgian strongs, but good still. interesting offering from unibroue. oteyj (713), Canterbury, New Hampshire, USA Apr 11, 2008 Pours light hazy amber with modest head. Aroma of white wine with typical belgian yeast, apricot, and caramel malt. Flavor was almost tart, with prickly carbonation, a slight burn of alcohol, and dry grape finish. Delicious, but overall not completely balanced. Pwn3d (1036), Manhattan, New York, USA Apr 5, 2008 I knew i had to find a special brew for my 400th rating, when i stumbled across this treat, it became clear that she would be the one. 750ml bottle from my local liquor store.. they actually have about a dozen left, which is surprising because its retired (message me if your interested). Pour is a cloudy orange gold with a frothy white head atop. Nose is a rich spice, orange, and yeast. Mouth is medium and suggests minimal alocohol presence of a 3 year old 10% big beer. Notes of pepper and spice are the focal point of the first few sips. Once adjusted, yeast, herb grass, and some sweet fruits appear peach, orange, apricot. One of the most balanced Unibroues ive had.
