ABV: 10% Calories: estimated at 400 C Volume: 25.4 fl oz Glass: Pilsener Purchased at: West Trenton Wine and Liquor, West Trenton, NJ Price: $8.00 Consumed at: home First Impression: I was surprised by the overcarbonated pop upon releasing the cork. It took me a few minutes to clean up and find the cork, and explain that I was okay to my wife. It’s a celebratory ale. Point the cork away from your face, a word to the wise. Herbal, flowery aroma, but not too active. Visuals include a completely missing head, a very large particle hazy body, and a deep golden color. A bit varied in color, flavor, and texture from the typical hefe or witte. Taste is typically fruity, but very well done. It’s exemplar in its adherence to style. Palate is perhaps its best feature. Nicely carbonated with a longer finish. Some hoppiness, some malt, and lots of fruit, but not approaching cloying or overly sweet. Second Impression: A very nice beer, and says much of their (now 17 year) achievement. I enjoy almost everything this brewery puts out, and this is by no means an exception. 750ml from Countryside Liquors (Florida). Rated on March 30, 2008 (bottle purchased on February 26, 2008). Pours a cloudy caramel golden with a thin head that generally dissipates quickly. Aroma: sweetness, honey, hints of apple and fresh fruit, perhaps just a touch of caramel and apple cider. Flavor: similar to aroma with a very smooth, creamy mouth-feel. Hints of honey with a slightly bitter finish.

Bottle. Split this brew with James and Dallas. Pours murky orange with an off-white head. Firm body with a crisp, clean finish. All around excellent Belgian strong.

Bottle. Sweet candy sugars in the nose with a light tracing of bananas, but there appears to be some tropical fruits present. I think I smell some Kiwi. Odd. There are also some floral notes as well. A rather quaffable aroma. Moderately hazy golden honey color with a nice off-whitish head that has nice staying power and good lacing. Starts with some very sweet, sugary flavors--almost cloying. Turns toasty and very biscuity in the middle. Lots of chewy maltiness. Very smooth, pleasant, and velvety. Alcohol is non-apparent. Perhaps a bit cloying to start, but I really love cereal-like biscuitiness in my beers, and I don’t mind sweet beers. I really enjoy this a lot, but I can see how this may not appeal to everyone.

Cobra (1076) - In a van, down by the river, Maryland, USA - SEP 3, 2006
750 ml. brown Belgian bottle. Corked & caged. Cryptic date code on bottle itself. Loud pop forcefully ejects the cork. Poured out a hazy orange color, with a spotty orange creamsicle colored head. Left a slight lacing down the sides of my chalice. Aromas are of oranges, tangerines, melon, and tropical fruits, as well as sweet malts, yeasty bread, and slight whiffs of alcohol. Flavors are tremendous in this one. Melons, pears, tropical fruit, and citrus all dance on the tongue, while the malty backbone asserts itself very well, thank you. Alcohol is present, but not overpoweringly so. Aging has turned this brute of a beer into a gentle lamb, full of flavor. Yeasty bread, malts, and brown sugar flavors in the mix as well. Rich mouthfeel, thick & creamy. Very lively on the tongue. Finishes somewhat alcoholic, and earthy. A good triple from Unibroue. Keep up the good work.

Yayforbeer gave me the hint these badbwoys were collecting dust up @ Total Wine. So I hopped on in the badass mobile and raced up there after work to grab the last 3. Having had the 11 a year ago, I figure the age besets well. One for now, one for later, and one for that day I know I’ll need it. Pours out into a tulip bleeding colours mixed in the debths were maudite dwells after la fin du monde claims thee. Nose hits of sweet candied malts and fruits race forward beckoning one farther into the sinful nature of those who find pleasure in creature comforts. Peeled oranges, lemons, yeast, some dark fruits are offered as if I was the God Dionysus. And fitting of the bottle size and I quote the: Three kraters do I mix for the temperate: one to health, which they empty first, the second to love and pleasure, the third to sleep. When this krater is drunk up, wise guests go home. The fourth bowl is ours no longer, but belongs to hubris, the fifth to uproar, the sixth to prancing about, the seventh to black eyes, the eighth brings the police, the ninth belongs to vomiting, and the tenth to insanity and the hurling of furniture. Please besets all when loosely translated, no man cometh uncomforted. .............Listening to Morning Child off the new 4 hero album.

Pours a blood orange leaving a thin white lace that disappears quickly. The body is cloudy and moderatly carbonated with a slight alcohal presence. The smell is spicy, wheaty, musty, fresh cut grass, with a pale malt honey notes. The taste is sweet upfront, honey and a sharp hop bite that perfectly matches the sweetness in the brew. This is another great offering from Unibroue.

750ml bottle purchased at D’s a few months ago. Last night before another seven day a week marathon of school/work. Decided to go for something big that I was looking forward to. Poured into my Chimay chalice. A-Body is a very hazy, translucent golden yellow. Pours with a 1-2 finger foamy head that eventually fades to a thick collar and leaves behind some lacing in the glass. When held up to the light one can see that the cloudiness is thick and dynamic with darker yeast sediment and cloudiness moving about the body. S-Smell is soft but very good. A spicy Belgian yeast comes through accenting a big fruitiness (apple, pear, lemon). Soft floral hops are noticeable in the background as well as the slightest hint of phenols. T-Taste is very subtle and mild. A fruitiness (as described above) comes through first and is the highlight of the flavor upfront. This has an accent of just a hint of floral hop flavor as well as a substantial bready yeast backbone. Spicy Belgian yeast really comes through for the finish as well as a slight accent of both floral hop flavor and bitterness as well as a hint of alcohol. What lingers is soft fruitiness and spiciness. P-Medium to high tingly carbonation and a very smooth, yeasty body. O- This is a very good BSPA that with its aging has developed a pretty mild, soft character. I would imagine that when this was fresh the floral hops really shined...but the alcohol was also much more noticeable. This BSPA...at least at this stage is drinking like a soft Tripel. Its very good and I am happy that I bought it. Would purchase again if I saw it again. The 10% ABV is well hidden though this does drink like a 7%...so its not completely hidden. Unibroue is an awesome brewery that doesn’t get the credit it deserves. Serving type: bottle
