Tasted at the May Northern California Beer Tasting. This Belgian Strong Ale pours a deep amber brown color from a 750ml bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is dark fruit, caramel, yeast and spices. A medium to full bodied Belgian Strong Ale. The malts are fruity and sweet, lots of dark fruit flavors. The hops are earthy. Nice smooth malty BSA from Unibroue. I would expect nothing less. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. The aftertaste is slightly sweet and spicy.
IPALover (57), Carlsbad, California, USA May 25, 2008 Very light aroma with a nice dry somewhat hoppy taste. The main distinguishing feature of the taste is its amazing smoothness despite being 10%. The primary taste is a very dry with light hops and a big malt (not sweet) backbone. I suspect this has a very low final gravity thus resulting in the dryness. caesar (3020), Bunnik/Utrecht, Netherlands May 24, 2008 Bottle @ Aarhus beerfestival 2008. Clear orange color. Again strong barley wine like aroma and taste. Sugary and strong malty. nickspies (76), Omaha, Nebraska, USA May 22, 2008 2008-Apr-25 from a 750 ml bottle (1 year and 5 months old). Some spice, ripe fruit, and sugar in the aroma. Dark orange and cloudy. The flavor was sour, sweet, and dry with some hops. Fizzy with a medium body. Skinnyviking (4142), Copenhagen, Denmark May 22, 2008 Bottle. Low white medium high white lasting head. Hazy dark amber body. Unfortunately the alcohol is dominating the otherwise fruity aroma. Appele pear alcohol hops flavor. Low carbonation and a long aftertaste. texasbartender (160), Sugarland, Texas, USA May 22, 2008 The beer pours a hazy amber color with a thin head that is mostly lasting with fair lacing. The nose is a savory mix of fruit and yeast. The front of the flavor is a highly carbonated blend of alcohol and citrus. The tale tasted like copper, but the metal taste lessens as it warms. Overall a simple beer that is drinkable but not craveable. Dedollewaitor (3625), Odense, Denmark May 21, 2008 Bottle@Aarhus Beerfestival. Pours amber with a white head. Aroma & taste is of yeast, caramel & dark fruits. Sweet & sticky palate. Nice!
