KimJohansen (6676), Copenhagen V, Denmark May 20, 2008 Dark amber with tiny head. Sweet yeasty aroma with caramel and ripe fruits. Sweet flavor with overripe fruits, caramel, toasted malt and yeasty notes. HenrikSoegaard (4264), Randers, Denmark May 19, 2008 Frothy white good mostly deminishing head. Amber colour. Week aroma and flavor, Average moderate bitter finish. Not as fruity and nice as expected, actually very boring. Oily palate. kiefdog (1567), Tampa, Florida, USA May 18, 2008 Updated: Jun 15, 200875cl bottle from Willow Bend Liquors (Tampa). Pours a dark, brown with a thick, creamy white-tan head that settles quickly but provides ample lacing on the glass. Aroma: Sweet caramel overtones with hints of sweet, ripe fruit and honey. Flavor: Sweet malt, spices, caramel, and honey. Medium-bodied ale with a sweet, lingering finish. Perfect balance of sweetness. malt and alcohol. Too bad Unibroue doesnt make this every year! IlanMan (816), Appleton, Wisconsin, USA May 17, 2008 Pour was dark golden/amber with a white fluffy head. Aroma was very citrusy and floral with notes of orange. Flavor was fruity and floral. Carbonation was just right. Very smooth and refreshing. Alcohol hidden very well. Great brew. Would buy again. AgentSteve (1334), SF Bay Area, California, USA May 15, 2008 Updated: Dec 7, 2008Pours an attractive deep caramel color. Nose is spice and sweet malt, as is the interestingly complex flavor that has a touch of fruit in it. Smooth on the palate and very drinkable. tylerss20 (101), New Hampshire, USA May 12, 2008 I actually found this stuff in a Shell station in Rindge, NH. Seven bucks for the 750 mL. Pours pretty cloudy, amber. Smells delicious, bready, spicy, almost citric. Taste was fairly sweet, pronounced malt, bread, zest, and fruit. A little too much at times, but a wonderful brew. Kept this one to myself and got the evening started early. shalloWMeans (160), Independence, Kentucky, USA May 7, 2008 Sampled at Jungle Jim’s Unibroue beer tasting. We were very surprised and pleased when they brought this beer out. The sampling schedule only included the brewery’s basic line of ale’s, so this was completely unexpected, but well recieved. Host Rick Swarez from the brewery informed us that the beer is made to a secret recipe, but does include Westmalle yeast and Munich malt. Pretty awesome. The pour produced a copper, orange brew with a creamy beige head. The aromas were absolutely amazing: Strong spices, bourbon, obvious yeast and malt dosage- cardamom, pepper and a strong hint of cloves. All of this carried over into the very interesting taste which included notes of vanilla, cinammon, and nutty liqueur. (hazelnut/macadamia- frangelico) Also present was some dark rum and a sweet, sticky molasses texture on the tongue. Butterscotch and a chewy bittersweetness carry hints of a wee heavy scotch ale into play. This brew takes the best attributes of every style, and combines them into one, significant, indivualistic beer. Sorry for such a long rating, but there was just so much to say about this. mmmbeer (737), Austin, Texas, USA May 5, 2008 Massive 750 mL bottle poured into tumbler- poured slightly turbid brownish amber, light-medium carbonation, very thin bubbly white head with some lacing. Aroma of yeast, sucrose, plums, coriander, bananas, and chopped figs. Hits the mouth with a medium body, the fruit notes come through cleanly, a small amount of the spice in the middle, finish is crisp and a good warming effect. Pretty good stuff maynard, and the 17 is next!
