Sweet, sugary, malty, yeasty and perfume like aroma with tones of overripe dark fruits, fresher fruit like pears, oranges and banana, clove, vanilla, mint, white pepper, mile nutmeg and other spices, mild caramel, almond/almond paste, honey, toast, herbs, light coriander and flowers. Extremely complex, layer upon layer nose. Malty and sweet flavour with tones fruits, berries, grapes and spices. Light bitter, some light acid notes and a lingering tone of fruits, tart berries and spices in the aftertaste. Champagne-ish, fizzy carbonation. Syrupy and lightly raw mouthfeel. Too young and alcohol-ish. The fantastic aroma and the elegant vinous flavour is the upside of this beer but the too notable raw sugary sweetness is a problem. jimhilt (1674), Bow, New Hampshire, USA

Cloudy amber color. Slight raisin nose. Strong carbonation and medium-heavy bodied. Flavor is honey, caramel, some spiciness but high ABV is hidden. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 28, 2007 750 ml bottle from Bevmo. Poured a cloudy copper color with a huge off-white head that faded very slowly and had plenty of lacing. One sniff and you know that this is a big Belgian style beer. The aroma was moderate in strength, and had notes of cloves, sweet citrus, walnuts, and alcohol. The flavor was complex and spicy, with allspice, cloves, cumin, bread dough, soap and yeast. Mouthfeel was full and satisfying with lots of prickly carbonation. Finish was long with a caramel sweetness taking hold and lingering. Overall this is a well crafted beer. Recommended. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 28, 2007 Aroma: mm, dough, sweet, vaguely banana- & clove-like - like a hefe. Mint, bubblegum... spicy, orange zest, very exotic, delicious, sarsaparilla...liquorice. Some saffron.
Appearance: foggy, beautiful pinkish orange, white deep and rare. Brownish white, milky head leaving thick laces.
Flavour: sweet, complex, sourish... a symphony of divine flavours, a nice malty bitterness with spicy yeast in nice balance with some grassy hops. I love it. Lots of exotic fruit & spices, some astringent coriander i think. Lactic aftertaste.
Palate: smooth, fluffily carbonated. radiomgb (1957), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 28, 2007 Bright copper in colour, large off-white coloured head, excellent retention and lacing. The aroma is citrusy, yeasty, some must, light spice, fruity - peaches. The flavour is characteristic of the other belgians that Unibroue has put out, the usual yeast and must. Full mouthfeel, medium body, high carbonation. Finishes long and spicy, very yeasty. This is too much the same from Unibroue. They really do have lots of golden Belgian Ales. I do happen to like them though. This one is no different. Its good to see Unibroue making good beer again.

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 20, 2007 Gorgeous ruby/amber topped by 3cm of dense, small bubbled, tan foam. Zesty Unibroue yeast, candi sugar, light and dark fruits, dense bready malt. Like an amber tripel. Dry, yeasty finish. Full body makes up for too much carbonation. Overall pretty solid.
