beerlud (22), Pennsylvania, USA Jun 5, 2007 Corked 750ml. Lots of carbonation, gives this beer a rich full head. Orange color, plenty of carbonation after poured. Has a yeasty subtle pear aroma. Hits the palate with an initial pear, cinnamon, coriander, and other spices. As you continue the bottle you get cotton candy and tangerine. The beer is dry all the way through. Excellent! Corked single bottle 750ml
Unibroue 16 appeared on my table.
My first glass: “I like it loud”
Uni entered scene with loud puffy sound .Yes again we I can see beloved Baltic amber skin that I often go back to with my memories to. Medium thick ivory crown sited on top.
Aroma: initial richness of sweet caramel malt, dried up - spiced orange peel, aromatic soft then wetter hopness. Full bitter sweet, calming aroma, alcohol hidden being cloudy sea.
Character of Uni 16 reminded me of old days, Trois Pistoles shared with my old body somewhere in downtown …Its young age characterized by live carbos, but they floated neatly in lane with other tastes. Body light enough to be lighter Belgian but here this is not to be blamed. Warmth of booze is helping me to drift away…
Second glass “Never stop raving”
Much calmer now, light buzz.. Uni 16 seems to be saying “come follow me, come follow me”. Sweet lusty kiss on lips, slightly sweaty yet warm body. I like exposed character. Unibroue 16 becomes me.
Third glass “The right way till end”
I can see my destiny. Malty butterflies. We are spent.... drank , drunk .16 is floating in me. Joyfully rich and warm. I can only wish to never stop that feeling.
Final glass “You know notin”
As we parted she said “You know nothing, nothing. Nothing! Radek. Rough, over hyped barrel oak monsters. I can teach you thing or two. Tonight was my lesson; pray for yours is so worth it. Uni 16 I am yours.
badgerben (3586), Blaine, Minnesota, USA Jun 3, 2007 Dark brown color with a large head. A little coriander on the aroma and a bit salty. Sweet malt with a little spice. Yeasty. Some cinnamon towards the end. A very pleasant surprise from Unibroue. wetherel (1565), Encinitas, California, USA Jun 3, 2007 Tried at Pizza Port’s Real Ale festival from cask. Normally I like beers made with corriander, but I this is trying to hide something funky. Almost a bit sour. Good creamy head. Orange color. Not my favorite. Unibroue: hit or miss. BBB63 (4199), La Porte, Indiana, USA Jun 3, 2007 Bottle and served in my Unibroue tulip: Slightly hazed copper hue with a small lace and some lace. The nose displays a meaty smoked tone, caramel and toffee malts, leather, raisin, and sea esters. The taste is a smack of sugary goodness and malty under flooring balanced by a dash of snappy and spicy hops. A consistent fruity character leads the taster on a joyful experience. All-n-all a solid offering and worth a try. kevd193213 (477), Hope Valley, Rhode Island, USA Jun 3, 2007 Bottle. Cloudy amber pour with a tan head, good lacing. Aroma of caramel, bread and slight citrus. Taste is sweet with a slightlly bitter finish. argo0 (6861), Washington DC, USA Jun 2, 2007 (750ml bottle) Amber body starts lightly hazed but turns murky by the bottom of the bottle, topped by large, rocky beige head. Aroma is medium sweet, plum/fig, banana, some coriander, orange peel, dusky, light white wine, alcohol. Taste is moderately sweet, plum/fig, some cookie/caramel, alcohol, banana, light orange peel. Effervescent medium-full body. No question this is Unibroue -- fits in with all the other big strong beers of theirs. As my rating attests, however, this isn’t a bad thing, though I think they could stand to work a bit on adding some innovation to these anniversary brews (after they make the 11 a full-time brew). RedHaze (370), Where the hell am I?, Nebraska, USA Jun 1, 2007 Best by December 2009.
Pours a hazy dark golden brown, with a frothy two finger head that fades slowly to a thick cap. The lacing completely covers the interior of the glass.
Smell; as with all Unibroue beers there’s a definite yeast presence in the aroma. Some fruits are present with apricots, lemons and apples as well as a peppery spiciness. There’s also a sweet maltinees in the background.
Taste; spicy upfront with a little pepper and some alcohol, though not overpowering, and they seemed to mix well. The fruits come out in the middle with the apricots, lemons and apples and the finish is sweet malts with another little hit of alcohol.
Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied, with a little bit of a biting carbonation. The drinkability is good, but would be better without that bite form the carbonation.
