75ml blottle. Very nice Belgian strong and a lot different than their usual. This one was extremely spicy. Aroma was strong clove and pepper. Pour was a beautiful deep murky brown with a 3 finger tan head. Taste was very hot in a spicy way. Strong ginger, clove, pepper and cinnamon dominate this beer. Almost has a pepper hot aftertaste on the back of the throat. Very different and good.

750 ml, bb Dec 2010. Nearly opaque mahogany with a garnet tinge. Three-finger, sticky head that leaves cobwebs behind. Complex aroma profile of juniper, nutmeg, wheat, toasted pecan, brown sugar, cocoa, light bubblegum and a hint of sour fruit. Flavors of the same earthy spices dance around fig and other dark fruit, wheat, peppery oak and red wine tannins, rum, tart apple, caramel, coffee, cherry and more. Medium body is dry, tingly and occasionally a bit too fizzy. The chest-warming alcohol, color and flavors of this beer make me wish it was winter already.

Bottle. Brown pour with slight maroon tinge to it. Huge tan head with great lacing. Aroma of bread and nutmeg. Taste of caramel, yeast, fruit and subtle chocolate. Great slightly sweet finish.

750 mL. Pours a pretty dark reddish hue with a tall khaki head. The aroma is powerful with hints at peppers, eggplants, and stronger spiced suggestions. It seems rather sharp but with a gentle fruit backdrop. The flavor is pretty aggressive coming from Unibroue. Lots of pronounced spiced and sharp notes cut through the mellow bready sweetness. I get hints at cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, coriander, licorice. I’m not sure if spices were actually used, but it makes me wonder. The palate is nicely heavy, not too sticky, but adequate. The 10 % is very well hidden. It’s good to see Unibroue coming out swinging with this one. It’s strong and unique. It may not cater 100% to me, but I enjoy its attitude, and it’s damn drinkable anyway.

750 mL bottle. Pours opaque, dark brown with huge, sticky beige head. The aroma is sweet with some chocolate and raisin bread, a good dose of clove, miscellaneous other fruits, and a hint of cinnamon. The flavor is peppery at first, with some licorice and alcohol, but it is quickly tempered by a very soft fudge-like flavor. There is a lemon zest note that comes and goes. The finish is dusty, a little bit toasty, and somewhat spicy (coriander and clove, maybe). Alcohol lingers long into the aftertaste. Very good.

Cloudy dark red-brown color, big creamy tan head. Sweet malty and spicy fresh scent, some citrus. Big sweet, bitter and acidic taste with a huge alcohol warming feeling. Phenolic aftertaste. Smooth, though moussy, mouthfeel. Rather high bitterness.
