It’s hard to differentiate between the spice and alcohol. After tasting the Unibroue 15 I can begin to taste the similarities between both beers. A lot of flavor... | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 15, 2008 Attractive deep caramel pour, which is the best thing about 17. Nose is pencil shaving-esque. All together bitter. I think something went wrong here. Wrong, but not terribly wrong. theisti (1661), Leawood, Kansas, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 15, 2008 750 ml bottle at Uber Tavern in Seattle. Pour is dark brown amber with an off-white head. Aroma of the signature Unibroue yeast, and not really all that much else. Maybe some apple and pear fruitiness. Taste is somewhat sour with maltiness a very heavy maltiness. The yeast again comes through very strong in the taste. The fruit is more pronounced in the flavor, and adds considerably to the flavor profile. Initially, I commented that this reminded me of Trois Pistoles, though as it warmed and the fruit came out, I don’t think this is true. Palidor19 (1772), Brandon, Florida, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | May 14, 2008 The aroma is fruity with plums, raisins, toasted malt, yeast, herbal and floral hops. The appearance is hazy brown with a huge head. The flavor is like the aroma. The palate is smooth. Overall a good beer. vyvvy (2043), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | May 13, 2008 Just when I was starting to think all of the new beers Unibroue was putting out were getting too similar ~ good BSAs, but nothing special ~ then they put out this very nice and unique offering. Pours deep brown with a garnet hue and large tan head than has good lasting power, unlike many Unibroue beers. The aroma is far more wine-like than any beer they’ve put out yet. There is dark malt, funky yeast, sourness, dark berry fruits, tart cherries and tannic aspects. Very interesting. Medium smooth body with quite a bit of carbonation. The flavor starts with thick sourness that strikes me as a red wine backbone to the beer. There is also some woodiness, graininess and abv warmth that is delicious and fitting. The finish is very dry with leathery / tobacco traits. This is a very complex and enjoyable brew. Like mentioned earlier, this is not a typical beer for Unibroue, but it is excellent and stands up with the very best of their line. Arayaga2 (954), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 13, 2008 Opaque brown with dimpled off-white head which hangs around for more than 5 minutes. Aroma is cloves, pine, cola and dark fruit in roughly that order. Taste is very woody, with sharp astringent notes, and vanilla and tart dark fruit throughout. Dry and weird, but not bad. $8/22oz PhillyHomeBrew (176), Forest Hills, New York, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 13, 2008 This beer pours dark brown with a huge fluffy tan head. The aroma has a little bit of lemon and a bit of a doughy smell. Kind of smells like root beer. There is a nutty flavor to this with a bit of spice and chocolate. $7.75 at New Beer on Chrystie Street, NYC.
