I shared a bottle of this with BeerBaron617 this evening to commemorate his 300th beer review on RB. What a nice beer to celebrate the occasion with. He picked this up at Holiday Market in RO and it certainly didn’t disappoint.
Always a good thing when you pop the cork and it’s smoky off the bottle :) It poured a really pretty garnet/mahogany color with a steady thick tan head (really, 15 minutes later this head is still hanging out and ready to roll). Aroma was intense, different, and really exciting. It’s really bitter on the nose, candlewax (odd, but it’s the truth), cider, sour, carame;, and chocolate. It tastes incredible. Really something different for a Belgian style ale. It’s almost like a combination brown ale and Belgian...really something great.. It’s got a mildly heavy mouthfeel - maybe a tad syrupy. It’s got a bit of the alcohol burn on the finish, but it doesn’t distract too much from the greatness that is in this bottle. It’s creamy. and has a bit of a punch.
Cheers to Unibroue for 17 epic years of brewing some of the most tasty beverages on earth. BeerBaron617 (306), Novi, Michigan, USA

This stuff is everything about why I drink beer. It’s epic. The aroma is caramel, vanilla, bready, etc. The flavor is even more complex, with tons of caramel, dark fruits, and some chocolate on the finish. Very good pick for my 300, and amazing beer from an awesome brewery. Cheers! BarossaLuke (95), Australia

Rich, spice and fruity esthers draw you in. I could drink this any day of the week but it was particularly enjoyable standing round a fire on a cold August night. b33r (363), Cleveland, Ohio, USA

This one pours an almost opaque dark amber color. There is quite the large beige head on it. It leaves quite a bit of lacing. Nice nose to this one. Caramel, brown sugar, yeastiness and earthiness are the main components. The taste is very good. It is a complex taste, with only a few flavors distinctly coming out on top. Slightly sweet and spicy with a hint of dryness to the finish. Another winner. It was a good choice for #1300! BeerandBlues2 (3216), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 7, 2009 Bottle. Pours hazy brown with an average, rocky, light brown head, lasting with fair lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (nutty, cookie, caramel, light hop (perfume), heavy yeast (earth, barnyard) with notes of alcohol, brown sugar, oak, and mushrooms. Full bodied, sticky texture, lively carbonation, and a bitter finish. Long duration, moderate sweetness, acidity, and bitterness. shigadeyo (2263), Harrison, Ohio, USA

It tastes slightly sweet and has a great beldn of malt, fruity spice, and bitterness. It has a dry rye-like finish. The beer is brown in color and slightly cloudy. The brown medium to large foamy head leaves great lacing on the glass. Very good!

Hazy dark brown with a big, heavily lacing beige head. Flavor is raisins, sugary toffee, spiciness, and a hint of molasses. My favorite so far of their brews.
