Pours a medium to dark brown with a large fluffy head. Aroma is spicy, yeasty, bready, dusty too. Not much sweetness in the aroma. Flavor is heavily boozy, with a lot of yeast, prunes and toffee/maple. Palate is creamy, with a burning alcohol finish. This is probably my least favorite from Unibroue so far, though still not bad. Overall, good.

Bottle as shown. Pours a dark cloudy amber large frothy light tan head that lasts awhile leaving behind good stick lacing. The aroma is a spicy fruit malt with raisin and caramel. Thin mouthfeel with brown sugar and yeast with a spicy finish. Hides the alcohol well, a very good belgian strong ale from Unibroue.

Sample at the Unibroue tasting at Blacklick Wine and Spirits on 4.10.09. Deep amber pour with a big tan head. Aroma of yeast, sugar and A1 steak sauce. Malty flavor up front with yeast and some alcohol. A bit coffee and hops in the finish. Didn’t get the A1 in the flavor.

An interesting beer. Nice medium head on a cloudy amber color. Seems to have an almost clove like flavor. Certainly lots of spices but cloves or perhaps even nutmeg the strongest. Lots of alcohol presence and heavy hops. good beer but too much of the “clove” flavor/

Bottle from Specs. Lovely in the glass, dark muddy mahogany with very fine silt-like sediment that swirls in iridescent ribbons. Tan creamy head with nice retention. Buttery aroma with sweet sugary malt, flavor is creamy sugar with caramel and dark fruits. Ethanol can be felt but not unpleasant. Very nice. One of my favorites.

Bottle. Pours dark red with white head. Aroma is dark fruits, spices and belgian yeast. Flavor is spicy with notes of toffee, caramel, and dark fruits. Finish is a little hot, perhaps more aging will take the edge off.
