BigBen2120 (558), Gardiner(52 miles from Allagash), Maine, USA May 18, 2008 750ml bottle from The Lighthouse in Manchester. Pours a murky dark brown, nearly opaque body with a good inch of light tan head. Smells fruity with chocolate, date, and a fair bit of wood/smoke. Tastes like a fine mix of chocolate, date, wood, smoke, hints of caramel. Complex and extremely well-balanced. Medium to full in body. A beer that feels full and yet goes down very easily. Tasty and more drinkable than expected. Another top notch limited edition beer from Unibroue!
Todeon (211), Höllviken, Sweden Oct 6, 2008 Bottle. Really sweet taste with lots of raisans and some caramel. Malty and sweet finish. greedycheater (80), Oklahoma, USA Oct 5, 2008 Chocolate brown, hazy/murky pour from 750ml bottle. Huge, off white head taking its time to dissipate. Aroma of caramel and some flower, sweet with a bitter finish. A malty concoction with a Belgian influence. General_Gao (2568), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Oct 4, 2008 Bottle shared by firmbuttstone. Poured a murky brown orange color with a light tan head. Lots of spices (esp clove), pastry, vanilla, and flowery hop in the aroma. There was also a whiff of rubber. Medium bodied and slightly sweet with mild bitterness and moderate to high carbonation. Citrus and tar graced the flavor and made for a nice combination there was also some flowery hops, light alcohol, and a dash of powdered sugar. Delicious. jimhilt (1424), Bow, New Hampshire, USA Oct 3, 2008 Would pour, if you don’t pour very slowly, a 5+ finger light tan thick whip cream head that fades very slowly leaving a good lace. Hazy amber color. Good carbonation and medium-heavy bodied. Sweet malty nose. Flavor is sweet plums, caramel and raisins. Some yeastiness in finish. High ABV is hidden. $8.60 for a 750ml bottle from Colonial Spirits Acton, Ma. pilsnerrogge (1609), Finspång, Sweden Oct 3, 2008 Bottled: Pours dark reddish brown with a big, thick head.
