notalush (2071), Rawn-kawn-kohma, New York, USA Apr 17, 2008 Dark burgundy beer, with a fizzy, lasting head - the aroma is an interesting mix of molasses, nutmeg, dried kumquat, fruit skin tannins/tartness, brown sugar (smells like a Christmas ale) - the flavor is quite similar - starts with candi sugar sweetness and strong wintery spices - next, strong yeasty character, brighter spices (coriander) - this is followed by kumquat and orange that lend a citric acidity - some tannins/tartness arrive late - finishes with some wildflower and bittering herbs (yarrow, lavender) - one of the most interesting unibroue beers I’ve had in some time - in fact, probably one of the most unexpected beers I’ve had lately, period.
Todeon (211), Höllviken, Sweden Oct 6, 2008 Bottle. Really sweet taste with lots of raisans and some caramel. Malty and sweet finish. greedycheater (80), Oklahoma, USA Oct 5, 2008 Chocolate brown, hazy/murky pour from 750ml bottle. Huge, off white head taking its time to dissipate. Aroma of caramel and some flower, sweet with a bitter finish. A malty concoction with a Belgian influence. General_Gao (2573), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Oct 4, 2008 Bottle shared by firmbuttstone. Poured a murky brown orange color with a light tan head. Lots of spices (esp clove), pastry, vanilla, and flowery hop in the aroma. There was also a whiff of rubber. Medium bodied and slightly sweet with mild bitterness and moderate to high carbonation. Citrus and tar graced the flavor and made for a nice combination there was also some flowery hops, light alcohol, and a dash of powdered sugar. Delicious. jimhilt (1424), Bow, New Hampshire, USA Oct 3, 2008 Would pour, if you don’t pour very slowly, a 5+ finger light tan thick whip cream head that fades very slowly leaving a good lace. Hazy amber color. Good carbonation and medium-heavy bodied. Sweet malty nose. Flavor is sweet plums, caramel and raisins. Some yeastiness in finish. High ABV is hidden. $8.60 for a 750ml bottle from Colonial Spirits Acton, Ma. pilsnerrogge (1609), Finspång, Sweden Oct 3, 2008 Bottled: Pours dark reddish brown with a big, thick head. Aroma has yeast, coriander, orange peels, nutmeg and black currants. Flavour is sweet and spicy and vinous. The finish is alcohol bitter and warming.
