tiggmtl (4179), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Mar 31, 2008 Gingerbread, chocolate cookie dough, cinnamon, brown sugar, sweet floral characteristics and dark fruit notes all blend together with a touch of alcohol in the very inviting nose. Opaque and somewhat muddy brown colour is topped by a generous, large bubbled, tan-cream coloured head that recedes slowly to a thick but partial cover with some spotty lacing. Flavour offers some toasted malt and plenty of yeasty cookie dough and chocolate characteristics. Fair bitterness reigns in the sweetness and keeps it from becoming cloying. Plenty of dark fruitiness especially in the aftertaste. Medium body with rather insistent but not unpleasant carbonation that really awakens the tongue. I’m finding this quite expressive although I’m drinking it rather warm. It only sat in the cellar for a couple of hours between purchase at room temperature and opening the bottle so it’s still quite warm. Will be interesting to compare to the second bottle which I’ll wait to cool down first. Tulip glass. Just below room temperature. (Brewery Creek, Mar-08).
hop_lover (156), Corpus Christi, Texas, USA Oct 12, 2008 Poured a dark tannish color with a small fluffy with head. Kinda foggy. Real sour tasting. Sweet maltiness. Dark fuits in the flavor. hopscotch (4595), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Oct 12, 2008 Bottle... Murky caramel-colored ale with a large, frothy, khaki head. Excellent, small, creamy, mushroom cloud-like retention. Weeping lacework. The complex aroma can be described using all these words: vinous, woodsy, acidic, earthy, malty, herbal, spicy, Flemish, perfumey, praline and dark fruits. Throw all those against a wall and they’ll stick. Medium to full-bodied with fizzy carbonation. Sweet; but sufficiently bitter and tart to maintain balance. Woodsy, funky and Flemish. Lengthy, moderately sweet finish. Strykzone (1021), Wood River, Illinois, USA Oct 11, 2008 Dark brown pour with a small tan head. Wood flavor with yeast and coconut(?), wood, and vanilla. Nicely complex and some super spice flavors. Did not expect coconut. Pleasant zest. Almost with the best of its breed. Maria (4461), Thisted, Denmark Oct 11, 2008 Courtesy of oh6gdx. It’s red-brown with a creamy head. The aroma is rather complex with notes of spice, oak, vanilla and pumpkin. The flavour has sweetness and notes of alcohol, vanilla, oak, spice, caramel, raisin and pumpkin. It’s complex, but needs maturing to develop the full potential. amish_caravan (212), Winona, Minnesota, USA Oct 11, 2008 pours heavy with lots of head. dark amber color with a scent of fermented fruit and some caramel. very smooth taste with tones of malt and fruit. finish is smooth with a warming feeling as it goes down. would purchase again.
