kepano (239), Meudon, France Dec 3, 2005 Unibroue is rapidly becoming a good friend of mine, and with the waning number of high-raters I have yet to taste, I am beginning to move down the list to their mid-range productions. I was excited to try Blanche de Chambly since witbiers are one of my favorite "easy drinking" styles - especially tasty with food. It poured a cloudy pale straw color with a frothy white head, nothing terribly exciting but on par with most brews of the style. The nose is light and exotic with notes of soft orange, pineapple and mango balanced by the typical yeast and wheat aromas. Sweet citrus is prominent in the flavor, and a gentle chalkiness is also noticeable but the mouthfeel is a bit on the watery side. The light carbonation and crisp palate make it a very refreshing beer and globally a good attempt at the style but Hoegaarden is my preference for its slightly fuller body.
1010 (178), Marysville, Ohio, USA Jul 3, 2009 pours a cloudy golden color with a very carbonated foam. Has a great taste of citrus fruit.
12 oz bottle from a sampler pack Hbuck72 (93), Chickasha, Oklahoma, USA Jul 2, 2009 Pours a nice dark golden/orange color with lots of head with a bit of lacing. The aroma is of grain and fruit. taste is of wheat, fruit, and yeast, good mouthfeel, with a heavy plesent aftertaste. Like all of the Unibroue’s I have had the pleasure of trying I am extremely impressed, just wish it was a bit cheaper, but as the saying goes you get what you pay for. AmEricanbrew (1493), Port-Au-Shreve, Louisiana, USA Jun 29, 2009 Hazy golden with a white head. Spicy, tart wheat aromas. Strong clove and coriander flavors with a tart wheat malty base. Nice demitriustown (659), Shelby Township, Michigan, USA Jun 27, 2009 12 oz bottle: This brew has a really nice aroma for a Wit somewhat dry, lemon, yeast, fruity, sweet, and has some decent spice notes. Appearance is a clear golden with a hint of amber mixed in there and a fluffy white head. Taste is definitely a Wit lightly subtle wheat notes, dry, yeast, bubbly on the tongue, fruity, and a nice light spice characteristic. Palate is bubbly on the tongue with a linger yeast and wheat characteristic in the aftertaste. Overall, It’s a really nice light wit that I will enjoy on this nice summer day. Cheers! JediMindTricks (141), Hampton, Virginia, USA Jun 26, 2009 Bottle. Pours hazy golden with a white head. Nose & taste is yeasty & of fruity apples. Quite sweet & sugary. Medium & light bodied...it is what it is... nate2g (814), Brisbane, Australia Jun 26, 2009 Bottle. Pours hazy light yellow with a medium white head. The aroma is true to a wit - nice spicy aroma with citrus notes. The flavour is slightly lacking and just doesn’t have the same intensity of the aroma. The taste is clove, coriander and orange. Smooth and bitter finish. Not sure about this wit, I’d have to try it again some time for another opinion. ditmier (729), Boise, Idaho, USA Jun 21, 2009 2009 Bottle - Pours a murky neon tan with a massive white head...aroma is spice and dough, with some lemon zest...flavour is pretty thin and one dimensional, unibroue yeast, grain and citrus....fairly dry and very meh... RedSox2004 (312), Pacific Palisades, California, USA Jun 20, 2009 Cloudy golden yellow with a very thick, pilowy, bright white head that stayed around for a long while and left ok lacing. Lots of tiny bubbles rising from the bottom, almost like a pilsener. Strong citrusy smell with plenty of clove and yeast aromas backing it up. Lemon and wheat flavors were dominant, some pepper and orange as well. Slight tartness. Soft mputhfeel, almost effervescent, and a cool, crisp aftertaste.
