| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 5, 2004 Updated: Sep 25, 2004My original personal notes on this tasting were pretty positive but that was at a time when my contact with German witbiers was fairly limited. This is a beer type I have become warm to but this rendition (Canadianized) leaves me a bit flat. I am rating this beer again after a year or so of sampling other witbiers. This is a white beer in all physical aspects but it is not quite as well balanced or sweet and lacks the spice and fruity esters of it‘s German counterparts. A bit too dry for the style.
Pours a pale murky straw color with lots of effervescence and a frothy head that stacked 2 fingers out of the glass then reduced to a lace sheet that capped the drink to the finish.
Aroma was very subtle of spice and raisins with a waft of alcohol.
Starts crisp then builds to a pleasing mirage of grain, fruits and spice tastes all devilishly subdued with the hopping upsetting hte balance, The finish is quite a surprise with a lingering essence of metallic hops.
A Canadianized representation of this genre, dry but very drinkable. fishingnet (1047), Brandon, Florida, USA

A very good Wit. gunhaver (1044), Tampa, Florida, USA

White beers are some of the uglier beers around, but looks can be deceiving. Aromas of cloves, banana, and hay. A real farmhouse feel in the nose. Flavors of spices are present. Nutmeg, wheat, hay. Good. A watery finish that tickles the tongue and fancy. Good beer. bfeldmann (1042), Wilmington, Delaware, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Aug 7, 2007 Very nice Witbier, another solid effort by Unibroue. Cloudy golden orange pour with a three finger head that settles over time. Ample strings of lacing. Hearty citrus scent with the noticeable yeast, and some spicy banana also pulls through creating a wonderful aroma. Easy and clean on the palate, very light and lively with no lingering aftertaste. Mellow flavor very typical of a well crafted Wit. Fruity with some doughy malt and subtle yeast flavor. Rather tame and well enjoyed. This is a nice one but would be rather difficult to distinguish among the other standards in this style. Nothing surprising and it delivers a great aroma and pleasant mild taste.
