DATE TASTED: October 19, 2013 ... GLASSWARE: Blanche de Chambly flute... OCCASION: trying to liquidate the summer stash before the fall season is unmistakable... APPEARANCE: faint, tepid hay-tinted body with champagne bubble and pencil-thin off-white head; no lacing... AROMA: beautiful wheat/clove connection reminiscent of summer; light banana dough and vanilla cream are latent scents... PALATE: fizzy, active and light-bodied; drinkable and refreshing...TASTE: lightly affected, acidic wheat that maintains its nasal promise--a spiced, seasoned flavor...OVERALL: What doesn’t Unibroue produce that doesn’t sing or sparkle? The "lightweight" of the case that nonetheless packs a pleasurable experience, crisp and aromatic ...

Pretty darn tart/bitter/sour for a witbier. I prefer the sweeter, yeastier, fuller types w minimal hop-like spiciness in the mouth for more of a drinking beer than a sipper. Nonetheless, it was decent.

12oz bottle. 12/11/17 best by date. Appearance: Light golden and clear (I poured the yeast in at the end), with a thick white head that lingers nicely. Aroma: Light Belgian yeast esters of pear/ banana, with a light wheat in the background. Taste: Light, wheat and creamy maltiness, with some fruity pear and citrus peel. Spicy coriander combines with a moderate to high hop bitterness for the style. Mouthfeel: Medium to heavy body for the style with a distinct creaminess and moderate carbonation. Also pick up some alcohol warmth. Finish: Fruity esters linger here, both pear and banana. Overall: A decent Witbier. Nice pear and banana esters and flavor throughout. Lower on coriander and citrus peel character for the style. Body has a nice creaminess and crisp carbonation.

Pours hazy orange with a foamy white head that has some lacing and good retention. Aroma is orange zest, fruits and wheat. Has a creamy taste and a smooth body. Really enjoyable.

Golden pour w/ a huge foamy white head & spotty lacing. The aroma contains some nice spicy notes. The taste brings out a few spices & has a tiny bit of depth for the style. It’s nice & light & decent for the summer!

Bue en bouteille de 33cl. Blanche trouble, belle mousse. Nez citronné, palais rond avec une pointe d’amertume finale. Rafraichissante.

Orange zest, white grape juice, and funky wheat aromas. Taste is orange slices, white grapes, subtle clove, pepper. Wheat carries the flavors from the middle through the finish.

Bottle, 341mL. Home. A yellow opaque, light orange beer with a medium white foamy head ; average retention. Herb, citrus, clove, cereal, biscuit note. Medium sweet, dry bitter note, lasting refreshing. Light body, thin texture, average carbonation, sweet spicy dry lasting finish. Overall, enjoyable !

I enjoyed this beautiful example of a Belgian witbier. Not too high in acidity like a Hoegaarden or an Ommegang Witte, but a wonderful aroma and enjoyable aftertaste. It could serve as a bridge from witbiers to hefeweizens. All in all very refreshing and wonderful with salads!
