4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 Tricker (205) - Quebec, CANADA - MAY 16, 2012
Bière blonde, presque orange, de 5 % d’alcool. Long col au versement.

On tap at Oblivion! Nice! Nose is unibroue, yeasty spices (some clove and light winter spices), some wheat/grass, and some light citrus. Taste is similar and smooth. Lots of citrus and spice/yeast. Very drinkable at the 5.5% abv. Another winner from Unibroue in my book.

Richmond 19th. Light gold, very slightly hazy, Spicy and pale malt aroma. Flavor is honey accented pale malts and spice. House flavor of Unibroue yeast. Maybe faint coriander. Nice. This one hit me right, even if it wasn’t spectacular.

341mL bottle from Brou Ha-Ha. This was actually such an interesting beer, I have no idea where the mediocre rating is coming from. Poured a hazy yellow, small white head with dark floaties. Aroma has Unibroue yeast and lemony esters. Flavour is just the oddest mixed bag of unexpected things. Spritzy citrus like a Saison, Unibroue yeasty dryness, but also the kind of spicing you would expect from Pastrami meet? Plus some actual woddy bacon meat flavour? What? Sounds bizarre, yet it all worked somehow? Really tasty, just completely bizarre and unexpected. I would definitely buy this again and I’m disappointed I didn’t get more.

Draft at The Royale, served in a nice Boulevard tulip. Pours a hazy light gold color with some yellow and orange highlights and an inch of white head that settles, leaving lace in the glass. The aroma has wheat, lemon citrus, coriander, rosemary, orange, and apricot. Some bready and sweet malts back it up. Flavor has the same citrus fruit, bready malts, coriander and herbs. Medium-bodied, with a bready mouthfeel with nice herbal and citrusy character to balance and moderate carbonation. Excellent wheat ale. First time in a while I’ve had a Unibroue and it’s a good one.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Dickinsonbeer (5075) - Hoboken, New Jersey, USA - JUN 6, 2010
Tap at Mondial 2010. This is kind of a pseudo saison, as they appear to have just used their regular canadian/belgian yeast that you can get from Wyeast. Seems like not a typical dupont, blaugies, or thiriez yeast. Pours a nice light clear golden yellow with a nice lasting pure white head and lively carbonation. Aroma is initially doughy wheat notes with doughy yeast, mineral, and light sulfur from being so fresh, then the typical very spicy flowery and grassy unibroue yeast takes over in a mostly good way - the malt is laid back, light doughy pils and a medium bracing cracker and toast note- also some lemon zest. Flavor is light cracker and good pale malt backbone, with a slightly cleaner less yeasty doughiness, but still lots of spicy phenolics from the yeast, almost gets that lavender and peppery kick from the yeast without using outside spices, lemon pepper, flowery, almost a fruity mineral character like raspberry seed, and a lightly tart and fairly dry finish. This was an enjoyable Belgian blond/saison style. if you like their yeast this one is one of the most straightforward beers they have now to showcase it. I just hope the last homebrew Belgian I made with their yeast tastes this good or better. I kinda liked it overall.
