(750ml bottle) I have seemingly found a "good" bottle? (Thanks Luc!) Pours a medium, foamy light brown head with a Trois Pistoles colour. Nose is very yeasty, coffee and even beef jerky with a lemon-citrus twist. Flavour is thin and watery. Mild plum, malt and a coffee tonic elixir. What happened here?

Totally forgotten this one in the cellar (damn !!). Pours a dark brown colour with a big beige head that is fizzy and disappears quickly. Reminds me of pouring a cola. Alright, well this one smells a bit like cork, so it did go bad (at only 5% ABV and being so old). Still, notes of roasted malt and apples. Bland boring mouthfeel and taste of burnt malt, with again, the fruit (apples). Great I was able to purchase a few of these back in the day, but nothing special (and now I have one left for more cellaring - which is not needed, ha).

Bottle. Black body, nice creamy tan head. Initial aroma of corn sugar-dextrose like candy, light smokey afterthought. Dry toasty flavour is akin to a dilute Chambly Noire at times. Light palate. Disappointing, but a treat to try.

Opaque dark brown colour. Aroma is lead by yeasty spicineness and not much else. Flavour is mainly plastic with some backing burnt sugar. Very simplistic and mailed-in. Did Van Steenberge brew this?

UPDATED: MAR 3, 2006 Bottle (750ml). Shared with blankboy, GregClow, jerc and tupalev - my bottle, from turg. Poured black, with a decent off-white fizzy diminishing head. Aroma initially like a candy necklace, then grainy, then yeasty, then some smoky bitter dry roast malt emerged, with a hint of fruit. Taste was extremely weak - watery, slightly bitter, lightly roasty, but mostly just thin and nasty, and it gets less pleasant as it warms. Thin watery and fairly flat mouthfeel - this is a poor beer, not infected, just badly made, like an even lamer Chambly Noire.

Bottle shared with HogTownHarry, GregClow, jerc & tupalev -- courtesy of HogTownHarry. Pours a murky black with red hues and an average size off-white head. Aroma of slightly sour fruit, smoke and a sugary sweetness -- where’s the famous Unibroue aroma? Flavour, like the others mentioned, is of a watered down Chambly Noire but with an unpleasant aftertaste as well. Light bodied. This is pretty bad, I never thought I’d rate a Unibroue beer this low.

Dark brown in colour, thin fizzy beige coloured head, some light lacing. The aroma is of apples, light malt and not the usual Unibroue yeast that you come to expect in their beers. The flavour is quite watery and very lifeless, no yeast flavours which is a major disappointment, very light spice. Lightly bitter mouthfeel, light body, medium/high carbonation. Finishes quite light and very boring. This is nowhere near what you would expect from a brewery such as Unibroue. This is a very sad beer from start to finish.

750ml bottle obtained in a trade with <a href=http://www.ratebeer.com/ViewUser.asp?U target=blank>Rastacouere, thanks David.
Opened on April 21, 2007.
No best before date.

Hazy dark brown hue, with a frothy tan-colored head, yeasty, dark malt, brown sugar, hint of fruitiness in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a cold dark coffee note, vinous and winey yeastiness character, here it seems we had problem, with the yeast, hint of fruitiness, nutmeg spiciness, leading towards an acidic fruity malty finish. So far as i know, this is the most awful beer from unibroue.

Bouteille 750ml.

Bottle shared with Jerc, Blankboy, Hogtown Harry, and GregClow. Dark brown, foamy off white head. Looks great. Sugar, slightly sweet aroma, hint of smoke. Taste is dreadful. A sour brown ale, a piss poor imitation of the piss poor Chambly Noire. Thin sour, yuck. Glad I sampled it last week, as I would have bought one of the many bottles I saw in Montreal this past weekend...and wasted my money.
