A hazed amber ale with no head. In aroma, fin du monde mix of candy sugar and yeast overlayed with rotten veggies, phenolics, solvent and dark fruits, powder, rosewater. In mouth, a spiced up Belgian ale wit loads of sugar, alcohol warmth, sugar, cinnamon, unbalanced. On tap at Hivernale, Feb. 23 2013.

Tap (Hivernale): Poured a cloudy golden color ale with a medium size foamy head. Aroma of honey with some of the typical Unibroue yeast and some overcooked vegetables (?). Taste is a mix between some sweet malt notes with clear honey notes and some light oak notes and some typical Unibroue yeast. There are also some notes of overcooked vegetables which wasn’t the most pleasant. I’m glad somebody is willing to experiment at Unibroue but I will stick to the regular version of Unibroue.

Beer #5 at the 2013 Winter Warmer Montreal, on February 23, 2013. Muddy blonde, no head. Aroma of spice wheat and barley, a little peaches notes. Taste of peaches and grapes, a little sour, dry bitter spice. The name of the beer is "Not the End of the World", well almost!

Levures belges typiques d’Unibroue perceptibles, ainsi que des pommes et des cerises. Couleur jaune un peu bruni, et côté saveurs on détecte une certaine amertume fruitée qui rappelle la version originale. Assez mince, accessible, elle est très réussie, et assez différente de ses soeurs pour mériter de figurer parmi les produits réguliers de cette institution québécoise.

(Hivernale des brasseurs Montréal 2013): Les épices abusent de mes sens dans ce bordel qui fini quand même à surprendre mes papilles. Impossible de percevoir les vestiges de la fin du monde à travers cette version tannique, trop épicés et confuse. Plus je la bois, plus je perçois des notes de miel, poivre, cumin, pétale de roses, quelques gorgées plus tôt, c’était un désastre.

My Bottom Line:
Omnipresent coriander seeds dip into vegetal allusions in this overspiced, oak-aged version of La Fin du Monde.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A ring of foam crowns the murky beige.
-Cereal flavors take on rough corn edges, probably because of the overdone spiciness.
-Oak adds mild wooden notes, which are pleasant.
-Ultimately, this felt like a simplified, overly spiced Fin du Monde, which is already quite spicy to begin with...
