TampaBeer (181), Tampa, Florida, USA Oct 29, 2009 Still-born belgian ale. Not enjoyable, really. Surprised at how thin this was, in flavor and in substance. A bit fizzy, maybe a bit metallic. Not Unibroue’s best. jbye4334 (653), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Oct 23, 2009 (bottle). Very dark brown color. Large off white head. Light malt aroma. Watered down malt flavor. Avg duration. Light dry finish. Slick texture. Soft/fizzy carbonation. Spare lacing. cfrancis (286), Gloucester, Ontario, Canada Oct 14, 2009 Heavy aroma of malt and alcohol. Taste is malt, yeast with the bitter taste of alcohol. I wish Unibroue would ease the bite of alcohol in most of their beers. They would taste so much better if they let the flavours shine through. TheHulk (103), Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada Oct 3, 2009 A very heavy scent of dark malt and yeast. Quite dark, only seems brown at the edges of the glass because it is so thick. Nice head but it diminishes very quickly. The flavour mimics the smell exactly, dark malt and yeast and then your mouth is dominated by the yeast and CO2 reaction on your tounge. It makes the taste hard to capture before it’s gone, guess I’ll just have to have another sip! Good beer, but the heavy flavour makes this one better WITH food. Itzjerm (68), Harvest, Alabama, USA Oct 2, 2009 Average dark beer. Refreshing, smooth. Good with a meal. Not to strong. Very dark black. enjoyable. BeerChaser0078 (270), Melbourne, Australia Sep 30, 2009 Bottle. Pours extremely dark ruby brown, looks almost black, with a tan head which, unlike most Unibroue beers, disappears very quickly. Nose is quite light but has aromas of toasted malt, yeast, spice and a hint of dark fruit. Flavour has a lot of similarities with the aroma but also has hints of apple, cherry and toasted bread, plus some vinous notes as it warms. Mouthfeel isn’t as creamy as expected but is still very smooth, medium body, tingly carbonation and a nice medium-long dry finish. Another great addition to the fantastic collection of dark ales brewed by Unibroue. JesseM (659), Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, Canada Sep 29, 2009 341mL bottle at the Kick Off in Waterloo. Been wanting to try this for a while and it didn’t disappoint. Pours a murky purplish brown with a small biege head. The aroma is of Unibroue yeasty character, mild roasty malts, and a lot of dark fruity esters. Nothing too crazy. But the flavour just knocks this one out of the park. HUGE delicious fruity esters the whole way, red graps, apple, cherry, and some port-like qualities to round it out. Mild yeast is the only dryness to add balance but this one doesn’t need it. Very drinkable and it was a struggle not to down the pint in 30 seconds. The flavours blend together very well and I was stunned by how tasty thing was. One of the best I’ve had from Unibroue and I’m so happy to have it available locally now. Delicious. alexlrar (7), Arkansas, USA does not count Sep 27, 2009 Bottle to pint. Ah i’m trying very hard to find a unibroue offering i cant stand.. to no avail! This pours must thicker and darker than it tastes. Were my tasting blind you couldnt convninece me this was a dark beer other than the nose
