Commercial Description:
Chambly Noire is a smooth and creamy dark beer with a beige and persistent head. Its torrefaction aromas and slight bitterness enable it to perfectly accompany various fish dishes, strong cheeses and chocolate desserts.

The aroma is heavy with dark fruits and sugar. Pours a dark red (almost black), with a huge creamy head. Has the standard Unibroue spice flavor, with hints of sugar and a touch of tartness. Very light mouthfeel. Not a bad beer, but not something I’ll hunt down again.

2/18/08 From the bottle. Aroma is phenolic with a strong clovey note mixed with a bit of malt sweetness dominating. Beyond that, there’s some some light plasticy tones and bitter carbonic roast character. Appearance is very dark brown with a moderate off white head that never seems to go away. Flavor is sweet roasted malt forward with very low intensity. There’s some light yeasty character beyond that, with a mellow banana and faintly pepper note. Mouthfeel is highly carbonic and medium bodied, like a thin soda, but with a tingly, grainy finish. Overall, this is an interesting beer that makes one think not so much of its Belgian origins, but more of an ancient soda from the turn of the century, bitter and herbal, but sweet and drinkable at the core.

Dark brown color, some lacing. Soft milk chocolate and mild roasted malt flavors. Light bodied. Minimal carbonation. Mildly sweet. Seemingly would be good as a session beer.

Pours a very dark chocolate brown with close to no head, just tan lacing. aroma is of chocolate and hops. Flavor is extremely light.... like watered down chocolate. it isn’t bad because there isn’t enough flavor for it to be bad. i don’t know. disappointed.

Dark reddish-brown with a thin tan head. Yeasty aroma of malt and spices. Flavor of yeast, roasted malt, and sweeter spices such as cloves or cardamom. Lingering sweetness. Light palate with a bit of carbonation. Very drinkable, but not exciting.

(Tap @ FS, Hou): Pours a dark dark brown body, Big foamy whitish head, lasting, good lacing. Very light flowery aroma, robust, spicy. Extremely watery body, Belgian flower taste, spices, very light taste. Warming up...sweet & fruity. Suprisingly light flavored for a dark beer.

On tap at Map Room-- Chicago. I knew the reviews were so-so, but was actually pleasantly suprised by this beer. I’d call it a very drinkable dark Belgian ale. Definitely keeps that classic Belgian yeast character in check. This almost seemed like a Belgian session beer-- if there is such a thing. Was the perfect chaser to the old ales and dopplebocks we were drinking on a wet, snow melting afternoon in Chicago.

12oz bottle. Pours a dark black with good effervescence and a fleeting head. Aroma is fairly light, with a scent of roasted malt, spice, and some bitter hops. Taste is full and creamy, with an unexpectedly sweet flavor of honey and dark fruit giving way to a finish of spice and a bit of chocolate. Pleasantly surprising.
