daniel0017 (232), Ontario, Canada Nov 18, 2006 Aroma of ripenned fruit and subtle wet hay. Opaque black body with thick, long-lasting, tan head of two fingers. Flavor is a strong combination of ripe fruits, grass, malt and dark chocolate. As it warmed these flavors became more balanced (I drank this pretty cold and found out how much better it was warm). The palate is silky smooth with a dry finish.
shalloWMeans (146), Florence, Kentucky, USA Oct 9, 2008 Inky, foreboding jet black body, like the hats of the Carigna Salieres regiment guarding the luscious liquid inside the bottle. A mountainous, off-white frothy head forms above the body and leaves magnificent Brussels lace upon the glass. This is medium-short lived, but leaves a delicate ring of retention. The aroma is full of juicy dark berries- sweet and ripe, with a rich, roasty malt flavor and bright, complex, earthy spices(cinammon, cardamom.) The beer is quite gentle and delicate on the tongue, with lively, sensuous fruit and licorice flavors. For such a dark, intimidating brew, this has an amazingly easy drinkability. A creamy, silky, oily mouthfeel and a semi-sweet cola-like finish- with only a hint of dryness, make this beer, in a word- Perfect. elihapa (318), Connecticut, USA Oct 7, 2008 bomber, for $3.99. Pours dark brown with a lively head. Aroma of dark chocolate, roasted malt, spice and hops. Flavor maintains notes of cinnamon, clove, malt, and chocolate. Finish is semi-sweet, with some licorice. Overall, this has a great unique Belgian-Schwartzbier combo. I will drink this if available. durhambeer (537), Durham, USA Oct 6, 2008 Sample from bottle at WBF in Durham. Nearly black pour with small off-white head. Earthy, odd nose... malty toffee and stewed fruits. More rotten fruit on the palate with bittersweet notes and possibly some hints of cocoa. Overcarbonated as many Unibroue beers are, in my opinion. Not one of my favorites from them. smjohnst (161), , Pennsylvania, USA Oct 3, 2008 This was a good beer overall. It had much more of a porter taste and consistency to it then it did an ale. A good dark ale though. oh6gdx (6343), Vaasa, Finland Oct 1, 2008 Bottled@EBF2008. Amber colour, mediumsized head. Aroma is fruits, caramel and some hops. Flavour is plum, fruits, caramel, hops and quite much yeast. Also some slight wheaty notes. Quite sweet and mildly spicy finish.
