nramsburg (200), New York, New York, USA Apr 6, 2007 Begins with a good bit of spicy honey flavor. Quite a good balance in the body, as a 9% alcohol evens out the intial sweetness. Toasty, yeasty -- reminiscent of baguettes -- quite pleasing. I slightly prefer the trois pistoles to this, but, nonetheless, quite a good brew. boboski (1095), Alabama, USA Apr 3, 2007 Cloudy yellow body with a modest but steadfast head. Regal lacing, as per the usual with Unibroue strong ales. Aroma is of a cacophony of readily discernible fruits including, banana, pear, apricot, grapes and plums. Yeast character leaves little doubt what brewery produces this beer. Toasted grains and wheat malts provide a earthy backdrop. Floral notes and pineapple round out a sweet and exhuberant nose. Flavor is moderately toasty, very sweet, alcoholic, lightly to moderately spicy, white wine notes in full force, pummeling tastebuds with grapey swetness. Finishes very warm, sweet, leading into bracing alcoholic dryness that fades quickly. Palate is spicy, overly sweet and sticky, smooth regardless. A typical caliber beer from Chambly, though this offering is too alcoholic and nears cloying at times, particularly in the latter half of the quaff. Dredd (484), Ormond, Australia Mar 31, 2007 This is more like it! After some recent one dimensional Unibroue beers, this seems to be more on the money. Straight away the opening of the cork releases a nice aroma yeast slight citrus and spice, there is a pleasent sweetness to the aroma, but i could tell it was not going to be overpowering.
Pours with a great white head and hazy orange colour. Flavours follow the nose, finish is a bit short, but it carries the 9% alcohol very well. Jmichael (633), Asheville, North Carolina, USA Mar 20, 2007 poured into Unibroue Tulip. pours a cloudy golden yellow with full white fizz/frothy head. aroma of sweet wheat and yeast. taste is wheaty with fruity sweet yeasty aftertaste. carbonation is present on the palate. overall it is sweet and good.... TampaBeer (181), Tampa, Florida, USA Mar 17, 2007 A gorgeous, hazy and cloudy peach color with a great head. Nice citrus in the aroma. This is pretty delicious. AskForJenny (627), Ontario, New York, USA Mar 7, 2007 750ml - Good color from the start, with a nice looking but shortlived head. Opens with a candy like brightness, which gives way to citrus and then spice. You find the alcohol flavor at the finish, telling you you’re in for a nice ride. bridge (659), Sydney, Australia Mar 7, 2007 Updated: Jun 7, 2007Poured a cloudy pale golden orange with a pillowy head that didn’t really last. Typical banana-like Unibroue aroma, a bit dusty while the head was there but giving way to some usual BSA sweet candy as it receded. Pronounced bubblegum and some peppery spice on tasting. The flavour is reasonably dry and tart surprisingly. Reasonably full bodied, but it seems a little too full on, bursting out with a bit of a tang and then dying away leaving a slightly sour apple aftertaste. Overall this is a bit underwhelming, and too much like some of the other golden brews from this brewer. CheersMate1 (770), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Mar 5, 2007 Updated: Mar 13, 2007Pours golden brown. Very sweet. The head wasn’t special and actually it kind of annoyed me a little bit. I was happy with the beer, but there was something missing. It wasn’t thick enough for me. It was very bubbly in my mouth, and went down smooth. At times it felt like I was drinking a good brew and other times it felt like I wasn’t. It has a grapefruit smell to it, which I like. The alcohol content is always a plus. Decent brew!
