mikeben (344), Naperville, Illinois, USA Aug 16, 2003 What a fine beer. It is really a very strong wit. While lacking the subtlety of some of its style due to its triple fermentaion and the high abv, its flavor is great. It hits you in the face with taste but hey thats what makes it so memorable. It comes in a large bottle with a cork. A good thing as if you drink it by yourself a half a bottle will start a pleasent buzz. I bet a full bottle would get you sloshed. As most beer drinkers who would buy this drink for taste, the cork should be welcomed as it lets you enjoy it over a few days. great stuff! BeerMaster (6), Quebec, Canada does not count Aug 11, 2005 Bottled. Deep and rich golden colour. This unfiltered beer brings notes of high quality spices (probably the same used in La Fringante & La Fin du Monde). Its high alcohol due to triple fermentation (9% north american edition, 8.6% European edition) is outstandingly well hidden. It really is God’s gift. Amator (29), USA Nov 26, 2005 Truly a ’Gift of God.’ In my mind, the pinnacle of Unibroue, which is no small effort.
I could go on about the mouthfeel, the appearance, the palate, but the flavor is where this beer is truly world class.
If you’re a belgian fan and haven’t tried it Don de Dieu yet (perhaps out of snobbery that it isn’t from Belgium?), get over yourself and buy a bottle. Purple-Disease (3), Montreal, Quebec, Canada does not count Dec 11, 2007 Ale de type triple/ 9% d’alcool/ Blanche aux reflets dorés/ saveurs de fruits et de houblon à peine perceptibles/ Arôme dégageant un soupçon d’épices dhurtubise (568), Hamilton, Ontario, Canada Aug 19, 2002 One of the best beers out there. Sparkling golden colour with very resistant white lacy head. Rich malty aroma with a hint of spice. Flavour is complex and the beer is super smooth for the complexity. Trig (4), Howell, Michigan, USA does not count Aug 5, 2003 second best only to the anniversary beer by unibroue. Not too sweet and not bitter. Enough alcohol to sneak up on you if you don't pay attention to the alcohol percentage. punkeedo (465), San Antonio, Texas, USA Aug 17, 2005 This is an amazing beer. Very sweet, with fruity notes and some spicy undertones. Very little head and a dark gold color. Very pretty, but lacking head pretty much altogether. Try this wonderful beer. It’s worth every penny. Bulldog99 (13), Montreal, Quebec, Canada May 24, 2002 Magnificent beer by Unibroue. Truely one of the worlds best brewers. Orange/peach colour. Perfect blend of fruit and spice flavours. Don’t get a draught, get a bottle. Here’s the way to pour Don de Dieu and all Beers on Lees: Don’t pour it all in one shot. Leave a little bit in the bottom of the bottle, swirl it around and then pour the rest in the glass. If you don’t do this, you’ll leave half the yeast stuck to the bottom of the bottle and half the flavour as well. That’s why bottle is better than draught. Good bartenders will rotate the kegs often but why risk getting a bad one eh!
