3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
I didn't know the rating of this going into it and I assumed it would be fairly middle-of-the-road since its reputation didn't precede it as with things like the Trois Pistole and the Quelque Chose. Yet, I found this to be a highly enjoyable Belgian Strong Ale. The aroma is driven more than average by the alcohol propelling itself out of the glass. That helps to make its presence known, with an obvious banana but then interesting layers of clove, pepper, mild citrus, and a hint (but not overstated sense) of bubblegum. But the nose perceives the alcohol as a slight burn in the nostril and sure enough, the first sip shows a marked alcoholic presence. Good flavor profile, with a candy sweetness sitting more markedly (than in the aroma) alongside the spicy alcoholic yeast-banana cocktail that this beer provides. The palate is a tough one to figure. It promised a lot, with the beer first starting out with a big, white, moderately dense head over a pale yellow, hazy color--I assumed there would be as much life on the palate as there was present in the body. But it faded midway through, becoming somewhat flatter, though never losing the stickiness provided by the increasingly sweet feel. Very good for its boldness of composition, though without using that sometimes overused word ("balance"), I think it relies too much on the alcohol to drive the aroma and the sense of palate, giving the appearance of spiciness where it might have used more.

Wow, it is a blonde beer on steroids! Very strong taste, a bit fruity. Watch out, high alcohol level that kicks like you would not expect.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
This beer is poetic bliss. Pours a pale straw color with champagne carbonation and an adamant, tall head of creamy white foam. The nose sparkles with crisp wheat, flaked grain, pale malt scents and decadent ripe fruit. Apricots and honey. It’s an earthy yeast with a delicate spice. Taste is full of sensation. The terrible sweetness, the chalky dryness, the spice and bit of pepper. It has just enough alcohol to warm you gently in your chest as the dry finish clears your senses in anticipation of the next sip.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
It pours hazy (translucent) amber with copper highlights; the head is off-white and foamy. The aroma has notes of: yeast-funk, apricots, and fresh-grains. The taste is medium sweet that finishes with a medium-heavy spiciness; there are notes of: aforementioned aroma notes, coriander, black pepper, and orange-zest. The palate is medium bodied, has medium carbonation, and a long finish. Overall, it’s like a combination between a tripel and a saison - pretty tasty.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20

Poured from bottle into a snifter golden with a white head that dissipates quickly
Scent of Belgium yeast brew-LOVE!
Highly carbonated & sweetly hopped with a malty bread finish. This brewery does Belgium so well.
The floral sweetness combined with the pale ale...well done.
