Light bitter and fruity aroma, and a watery tart flavour. Overall a good drink with quite standard Belgian strong beer qualities. Schroppfy (1813), Ohio, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Jan 8, 2004 Spicy nose, not quite as yeasty as some others from this brewery. Surprisingly watery and with really very little flavor. I'm astounded. The bottle doesn't seem to have gone bad (there was only a soft pop upon opening but still plenty of carbonation) - just not a good effort? I am truly confused - while not the biggest Unibroue fan, I've not had one this lackluster! DYCSoccer17 (2189), Davis, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Jan 6, 2004 750 ml--Pours hazy yellow/orange with a robust white head. Aroma is yeastly with hints of banana, raisins, and maybe some cloves in there as well. Start is sweet turning into a more yeastly taste. Finish is creamy and smooth. I agree that the 7.7% is hidden very nicely. Another solid brew from Unibroue. ChazyRPh (571), Chazy, New York, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 6, 2004 Pours a cloudy golden color with a generous white head that lasts moderately. Definately yeast in the aroma, along with citrus and some banana. Very carbonated, citrusy with some spiciness (clove and all spice). 7.7% alcohol hidden nicely. A nice drinking beer. egajdzis (3621), Spring Mount, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 5, 2004 Best before 10/25/04... Poured a hazy golden color, some yeasties floating around, with a large, foamy, creamy white head with some lacing. Yeasty, citrusy, and some cheesyness as well in the aroma. Citrusy, lemon, dry yeast, some bitterness with a peppery finish. This had a strong carbonation for a little while. This was not the best tripel I have had, but it was certainly drinkable when the carbonation subsided. krisbierjaeger (844), dolores, Colorado, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jan 3, 2004 ceremonially decanted in a snifter, our holiness takes shape with bubbling alacrity, it wears a deep pollen-crusted yellow orange hue, like the hot cadmium heart of a van gogh sunflower. the head is fair and delights when the drinker tips his glass, for it quickly scribbles in chalky lace some memorized stanza of medieval prose. ginger and lemon aroma, peeled apples, a bit of cinnamon bark, and the mildewy pages of books boxed in the basement. it's creamy on the tongue, and tasted akin to well-lemoned apple cider; sweet, cloudy with baker's yeast, supported by woody ribs and struts of bronzed malts and alcohol. the bitterness arrives late and with weak apologies, but tries to make ammends by staying and helping to clean up. serious soda pop for grown ups. jbrus (4844), Delft, Netherlands
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 21, 2003 Updated: Oct 21, 2005re-rate 10/21/05, 3.8: Aroma of sweet pineapple and soft spices. Golden color, white irregular head, fair lace. Sweet, pineapple, spices, bitter, quite complex. Smooth and warming. Very flavorfull, flowing smoothly through your throat and then the feeling suddenly stops - what a pity - but finish is everlasting. 12/21/03, 3.5: Very malty and citrus aroma. Hazy, yellow/amber color, white head, good lace. Sweet, apple, citrus, malty, very good drinking but not extraordinary. Strange palate, syrupy but still thin. jgb9348 (2495), Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Dec 12, 2003 Super hazy golden coloured body with strong orange highlights and a large, soapy dense off-white head. Aroma of coriander seed, lemons, curacao, yeast and some pepper. Medium to Full-bodied; Initial spicey character with the pepper and coriander seed showing through, followed by a bit of a sweetness and capped off by a dry bitter finish. Aftertaste has some of the pepper and a slight amount of yeast, but fairly different in complexities than their other tripels. Overall, a decent beer, but not impressive to me, and it took me very long to sample it, because the brewer and similarities among product lines don't thrill me. Not really worth buying, unless you can't find any 'decent' american produced tripels (try Allagash, Victory, Weyerbacher, etc). I bought this twelve ounce bottle from Beers of the World in Rochester, New York and sampled it on 12-December-2003.
