3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Had to use a corkscrew to get the cork out, and even still had to struggle. Cork residue was stuck all along the inside of the mouth. Pour wasn’t very lively despite my best efforts. Tastes...old. It’s below the standard I have found Unibroue to hold high so maybe it was mishandled at some point as the best by date is still very far away. Anyway, it’s a bit sweet and spicy in a negative way, as in too much perhaps. I don’t usually suggest a more subtle approach, but this seems hasty...and dead.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a huge frothy white head and has a hazy orangey golden appearance. Aromas of yeast and citrusy notes. Flavours are quite sweet with strong spice notes. The yeast takes a backseat and the hoppy citrusy hints become more pronounced. Also some notes of floral and earthy hops. Fairly excessive carbonation. Full bodied mouthfeel.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
I just have to say, it took me almost three years to find this one so finally being able to write this review is very enjoyable. This tripel presents a foggy golden orange robe showing tons of bubbles. The head is very lightly tanned and seems to be creamy, even unctuous and fluffy at the same time. It retains very well and will show a good lacing. The nose first hits you with sweet and sweaty malts originating from the corn and barley malts used in its crafting. The corn is very present kind of supporting all of the other aromas. You can also decode some spice and a light bready side to it. The taste delivers the malts but very lightly so they don’t overwhelm the palate and they are mixed with some floral hops and a bit of smoke that delivers some kick. The taste is very interesting and presents no aftertaste. It could remind you of a strong lager (7% ABV and up) from the sweetness but it shows an interesting complexity that kills that idea on the spot. The mouthfeel is dense and creamy (even foamy) paired with a light sharpness that gives it structure. Conservative Tripel amateurs might not be impressed by this product but being a huge fan of Belgian style tripels this brew caught my attention for its distinctive taste and aroma. If you ever get the chance of laying your hands on one of those, it’s definitely worth a try. I kept two bottles in my cellar for two years and cracked them opened during the summer of 2013. Aged, this beer becomes much more complex with strong hints of buttered tablet and brown sugar. Very liquorish, it was outrageous!

Really rather strong yeast taste on this beer. Otherwise relatively typical tripel I would say.
