4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Intense, spicey, sweet malt aromas. Hazy apricot colour, medium sized creamy head, with some pretty lace. Spice and malts dance upon the tongue, evolving into a pleasant bitter finish. What a full bodied and strong lovely beer! Merci MartinT.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Hazy orange colour with a nice dense tan head. Aroma of spruce, cough drops and malt. Heavy-bodied; Strong yeastiness and coriander seed. Aftertaste sprucey and piney-not too pleasant. Overall, very nice to try! I had this bottle at the Winter Party at Oakes' place in Toronto, Canada on 05-December-2003. Many thanks to MartinT for bringing up four of these 75 cL bottles!

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Golden blond, white bubly heady. Smells like ginger a lot to me. Some interesting spices in aroma and flavour. Flavour was very spicy, lots of different things happening, like christmas cake. Bubbly palate. Nice beer. Bottle.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
There I go, finally opening a first bottle after having bought 10+ 26oz already. The appearance is a cloudy amber with a big off-white head, impressing for a beer of this strenght. It fades away pretty fast unfortunately in a Maudite Glass. The aroma is intense and easy to capt without entering the nose inside the glass. Unibroue's yeast is at the meeting together with a profound malt background. Lots of fruits catch the nose's attention, peaches being the most obvious, but I also capt juniper, vanilla, cortland apples and tangerines. The taste develops from robust sweet fruity malts first into heavy creamy complex very subtle bitter spiciness (coriander). As you adventure further in the throat, it can't hide its high alcohol level. This is not unexpected from a 10.5% beer, but I've seen those guys hide their alcohol better. If you like the flavor, you'll definitely appreaciate the few seconds after swallowing which are long and warming by a very slightly astringent alcohol/fruit coat around the mouth. An imperial Maudite if you allow the comparison with definite typical Unibroue characteristics and a surprising heavy body.. can't wait for their 18% special beer(s)...

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: MAR 19, 2004 Re-rate March 18 2004. Didn't enjoy this as much as last time. I noticed the spiciness more this time around. Dropped from 8/4/8/4/17 to 7/4/7/4/15
Hazy orange amber colour with a thin film of head that lingers. Warmingly pleasant alcohol melds exquisitely with a flavour profile that is bitter sweet with a bit of spice from the aroma that doesn't jump out at first. Bit of a tree like quality that is either spruce or pine is interesting and pleasant. This was the beer I was most looking forward to at the Toronto Christmas party. Thanks to MartinT for bringing it.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Spicy and yeasty, sweet and fruity aroma. Cloudy, almost opaque, amber with thick large-bubbled white head that reduces fully with no lacing. Very complex malty flavour with dark fruit and assertive spiciness and alcohol just apparent in the finish before coasting out on a lasting mild bitterness. I find the body on this one to be a litle lighter than some of their others despite the huge maltiness but overall, I am really enjoying this one. Bottle.
