Surprising find at the local shop, no hesitation on my part to uncork this fine treat. Pours a mottled, ruby-brown color. A thin tan head sits on top of the opaque body and produces small spots of lacing. Mellow aroma of port wine filled with lots of dark fruity scents and a lightly interwoven mustiness. Exceptionally smooth mouth feel, I’m sure the few years spent conditioning in the bottle have helped. Slightly sweet and dry, nice and yeasty. Wonderful rich fruity flavors. Thick red wine, plums, and raisins. A complimenting thin mulch-like earthiness adds depth. Well blended flavor, subtle and potent. Nicely aged and very enjoyable.

The beer came in a handsome 750 ml. bomber with a wire cage and a cork. The beer poured a cloudy reddish brown with three fingers of foam. The nose was spicey, with flowers, yeast, fig and sweet malts. The taste started simple with sweet red apple and spicy doughy cinnamon. Dark Rum and raisin come next with herbal hops rounding out the finish. Everything balanced out nicely. The alcohol was well hidden, improving drinkability.

750 ml. bottle. The color is a dark brown and dark beige head. The aroma is of malt and spicies. The taste is also of malt and spicieswith an added taste of sweet caramel and molasses with some fruits added. The aftertaste last a long time.

750, corked and baled. Pours murky dark brown with ruddy overtones and a nice, dense, thin, sudsy whitish head. Green apples, hay, dust, and a bit of lemon on the nose. Light, fizzy body, almost dances--you could argue that it’s overcarbonated, or you could serve it to people who enjoy having their nose holes tickled. It’s not unpleasant. Caramel, green apples, roast pistachio, brown sugar, and white sugar on the mid-palate. Long fruit sugary finish.

.Pours dark dark brown with nice pillowy belgian head. Notes of raisin, plum, caramel yeast, a hint of hop bite, dark fruit, grapes and yeast. Flavor was molasses and caramel, roasty, and warm. A hint of an alcoholic burn, but very mellow from aging. Palate was mellow and smooth, and rich. Very complex flavors and aromas, as well as a fufilling mouthfeel make this quite the exceptional brew.

courtesy of oteyj. beautiful dark brown/red pour, gorgeous fizzy head; nice lacing as well. incredible aroma- molasses, red wine, malt, sweetness; absolutely ensnares the senses. taste is awesome- similar to smell, but flavor shows the 3.5 year aging period- nice fermentation, delicious yeast, red wine, great complexity. nice mouthfeel, really a great beer.

purchased at warehouse liquor in winona, mn in march of 2008. pours dark brown. exactly what a good beer should look like. scent is of strong licorice and molasses. taste is the same with some brown sugar, and fermented fruit and a red wine taste as well. this must have fermented quite well in the bottle for 2 years because it tasted like more than 10% abv. still the alcohol is very well hidden and the taste is out of this world. I will probably go back and get the rest of the bottles tomorrow.
