Jungle Jim’s Second Spring Beer Fest

5/12/2007: Unibroue Édition 2005 is chesnut colored, clear, and has a frothy beige head. At first there is a hint of vinegar or sour cherry, bu that only lasts one sip and then passes. The aroma and flavor are both smooth and mellow. This beer is perfectly oxidized at this point and has a wonderful aged malty and fruity flavor. It also tastes strong, but the alcohol is well-blended with the other flavors and never pokes out to explicitly reveal itself. Actually, the flavor reminds me of a weaker barleywine with some hints of Belgian flare to it. The body of this beer is medium to medium-full with a smooth, creamy texture. This beer seems to be at its peak right now. What a pleasure to drink. Definitely grab any bottles that may be around and drink them now!

Sampled from a 750 ml corked and caged bottle ྪ% ABV). Production 11-23-2004.

Pours a dark brown, or black with a medium off white head. A very unique smell. Some sourness, clove, and some spices really stand out in the nose. The taste is kind of sour sweet. Its got a little funk to it, which really attacked my tastebuds. Big apple was the main fruit I pulled out of this beer. Really wierd taste, not sure if I like it or not. I’ll give it points for originality. Dont think I’ve had a beer quite like this.

Nice aroma of plum, raisin, fruit, apple, and hints of caramel and toffee. Pours a dark reddish brown with tan head. Flavors of dark fruit, sweet malt, and a bad sourness (kind of like an unripe sour apple). A little disappointing after the nice aroma, should have just smelled it and never took a sip haha.

Pours dark brown with a foamy/frothy tan head. Strong aroma of anise, raisins, plums, some brown sugar notes, a bit of alcoholic fermenting fruit, and slightly musty yeast. First sip has tons of caramel and raisins, with light warming alcohol. Flavor develops a fruity sourness as it coats the palate. Raisin flavors become carmelized, and the anise really comes through. Palate is medium, lightly effervescent, warm, and dry with some earthy/fruity notes. Complex and easy drinking despite the noticeable alcohol.

750ml bottle: It’s about time that I drank this one!!! The cork came out of this one with a loud "POP". This one poured an opaque brown color. There was only a small tan head and it dropped off quickly. The aroma is good, and contains mainly notes of plums and raisins. Some others down there in the mix also. There is a light fizz on the tongue. There are many flavors married together here. There are some dark fruits, a hint of chocolate, faint caramel. It has a touch of sweetness and tartness at the same time. Another excellent brew from these guys. After I drank this awhile (and it warmed up a bit), there was also notes of green apples to the nose and taste.
